Leftist Climate Protesters Thrown Off Stage in a Heap While Disrupting Event Honoring Sen. Lisa Murkowski (Video)

Activists with the leftist group Climate Defiance were thrown off the stage in a tumbled heap while disrupting an event honoring Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday. There are no reports of arrests or injuries.

Murkowski was being honored by the Bryce Harlow Foundation at an event held at the Marriott Marquis hotel in downtown D.C. near the convention center. Bryce Harlow was a Republican presidential advisor, Congressional staffer and lobbyist.

Video posted by Climate Defiance shows several activists holding a banner being bull-rushed in a tumble off the stage by security and what appears to be organizers. A woman in a black dress who seems to be Murkowski moves away from the mob to a far corner of the small stage.

The video was posted with this commentary, “BREAKING: We just shut down a gala honoring U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski. Murkowski is a murderer. She incinerates us to enrich her cronies. As Chevron’s top lobbyist gave her an award, we stepped in and stopped the ceremony. Respect us or expect us.”

Isra Hirsi, the 21-year-old self-styled communist daughter of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) announced on X Twitter Thursday that she has been suspended by Columbia University in New York City for organizing a pro-Hamas occupation on campus grounds. Hirsi attends Barnard College, which is connected to Columbia.

Hirsi describes herself as an “angry black girl” with a communist hammer and sickle symbol on her X Twitter profile.

Hirsi posted, “i’m an organizer with CU Apartheid Divest @ColumbiaSJP, in my 3 years at @BarnardCollege i have never been reprimanded or received any disciplinary warnings. i just received notice that i am 1 of 3 students suspended for standing in solidarity with Palestinians facing a genocide…those of us in Gaza Solidarity Encampment will not be intimidated. we will stand resolute until our demands are met. our demands include divestment from companies complicit in genocide, transparency of @Columbia’s investments and FULL amnesty for all students facing repression”

The image Omar posted connected the occupation protest to a similar attempted campus takeover by radical leftist students in 1968. Hirsi stated in an interview Wednesday that was the case that was posted by the People’s Dispatch, “Isra Hirsi (@israhirsi), Barnard College junior and organizer with @ColumbiaBDS, is participating in an indefinite occupation of Columbia’s campus in solidarity with Gaza. Organizers have remained defiant under repression and pledge to stay until Columbia divests from Israel.” (Hirsi was wearing a COVID mask even though she was outside.)

President Trump is swarmed by supporters at fast food restaurants and bodegas where he spends a long time talking to them and reporters, as happened Tuesday evening in Harlem. In contrast, 81 million vote getter Joe Biden stopped by a Sheetz gas station in Pittsburgh Wednesday afternoon and was greeted by total silence, save for one supporter who met him at the door with a hug. Video of Biden’s entrance shows two children and their mother seated, silently watching Biden, with the sound of the in-store music heard quite clearly over the small talk by Biden and the supporter. There were no cheers, no chants of “Four more years!” Just muzak. With few supporters to talk to, Biden was in and out in just two minutes according to the pool report.

Video of Biden, accompanied by Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Ed Gainey (D) and Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato (D) was posted by WTAE-TV reporter Bob Mayo, who noted the store was given ten minutes’ notice on the visit and that Biden picked up an order of mostly turkey subs for construction workers at his next visit.

Even as the U.S. was defending Israel from a sustained aerial attack by Iran and Joe Biden was speaking by phone to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, senior Biden administration officials were trashing Netanyahu and Israel in leaks to the media.

NBC News reported Biden has privately said he fears Netanyahu is trying to drag the U.S. into war while a senior administration official told NBC, “The Israelis don’t always make the best strategic decisions.”

Some top U.S. officials are concerned Israel could do something quickly in response to Iran’s attacks without thinking through potential fallout afterward, according to a senior administration official and a senior defense official.

Riddhi Patel, the pro-Palestinian activist seen on video threatening to murder the Bakersfield, California mayor and City Council members at a public meeting Wednesday, broke down in tears in court Friday as she was arraigned on 18 felony counts. Patel is being held on $1 million bond after pleading not guilty.

In fiery remarks to the council in support of a ceasefire in the Gaza war on Israel, Patel, 28, spoke of revolution, guillotines and threatened murder at Wednesday’s meeting.

Patel spoke twice during the meeting Wednesday in support of a ceasefire resolution in the Hamas war on Israel. Her first remarks began with mention of her belief Jesus would kill the City Council members (“You guys are all horrible human beings and Jesus probably would have killed you himself”), and ended with mention of violent revolution and her hope the City Council would be killed by guillotine one day (“I remind you that these holidays that we practice, that other people in the Global South practice, believe in violent revolution against their oppressors. And I hope one day somebody brings the guillotine and kills all of you motherf***ers!”)

Her second remarks included opposition to a proposal to use metal detectors for City Council meetings and ended with her saying, “We’ll see you at your house, we’ll murder you!”

The 10 counts of threatening with the intent to terrorize are in regard to five City Council members — Andrae Gonzales, Bruce Freeman, Ken Weir, Manpreet Kaur and Patty Gray — as well as Mayor Karen Goh, City Clerk Julie Drimakis, Assistant City Clerk Sara Ortega, City Attorney Ginny Gennaro and City Manager Christian Clegg, according to the complaint The Californian requested from the Kern County District Attorney’s Office.

At Friday’s hearing, Court Commissioner Sally Ackerknecht granted a protective order that restricts Patel from going within 500 yards of the 10 individuals’ homes, businesses or schools that they attend or have events at. Patel is also ordered to stay 500 yards away from City Hall North and South if she posts bail, which is currently set at $1 million.

For the eight counts of threatening certain public officials, the complaint lists Gonzales, Freeman, Weir, Kaur, Gray, Goh, Clegg and Drimakis as the victims. Clegg and Drimakis are not elected officials, however, the complaint refers to them as such.

The other two City Council members who attended Wednesday’s meeting, Bob Smith and Eric Arias, are not considered victims because they did not feel threatened, DA spokeswoman Daniela Gonzaga said in an email to The Californian.

The next hearings for Patel are on April 24 and 25.

Joe Biden’s schedule for the next nine days has him only putting in one full day of work at the White House. Three days are set to be spent campaigning in Pennsylvania and five days are scheduled for vacation in Delaware.

The White House said that traveling with Biden is Marc Gustafson, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for the White House Situation Room, indicating a concern the Middle East could blow up while Biden is on his beach weekend.

Biden arrived at his vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Friday night where he will stay until Sunday night. Monday he has two state level meetings at the White House. Tuesday he travels to Scranton for campaign events. On Wednesday, after overnighting in Scranton, Biden heads to the Pittsburgh area. After returning to the White House Wednesday night, Biden heads right back to Pennsylvania for two more campaign events in Philadelphia on Thursday, after which he returns to the White House. On Friday, Biden takes off for his family home in Wilmington, Delaware where “he will remain throughout the weekend.”

All this effort by Biden in Pennsylvania comes after President Trump is scheduled to spend just one day campaigning in the Keystone State with a rally in the town of Schnecksville, located north of Philadelphia, on Saturday night.

Starting Monday, Trump will be in New York City for the start of the Biden administration orchestrated Democratic Party show trial put on by Democrat Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg over alleged campaign related payments to stripper Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal.

A luxurious London pub and boutique hotel owned by celebrity British chef Gordon Ramsay has been taken over by a gang of squatters who are threatening legal action if an effort is made to remove them, according to reports that place the value of the property at 13 million pounds sterling (About $16.2 million.)

The gang, said to be made up of at least six “professional squatters”, used Ramsay’s own kitchen appliances to barricade themselves in and have glued shut the locks.

Photos show the swanky bar area of the venue — which had been temporarily closed for a handover — resembling a tip, with debris sprawled everywhere and a squatter crashed out on a leather sofa.

Ramsay, 57, was about to sign over a multi-million pound lease to new partners when the gang broke in to the York & Albany pub and boutique hotel near Regent’s Park, central London.

The TV chef — who was embroiled in a legal battle over the venue back in 2015 — called the police last Wednesday but has been unable to remove the squatters from the 19th-century building.

They have also slapped a legal notice on the front door, saying they are entitled to stay there as it “is a non-residential building”.

They claim that the law which prevents squatting is not applicable because it “was NOT designed or adapted, before the time of our entry, for use as a place to live”.

Incredibly, they then threaten legal action, suggesting that if anyone tries to enter “by violence” they could end up in jail for six months.

They warn: “Take notice that we occupy this property and at all times there is at least one person in occupation.

“That any entry or attempt to enter into these premises without our permission is therefore a criminal offence as any one of us who is in physical possession is opposed to such entry without our permission.

“That if you attempt to enter by violence or by threatening violence we will prosecute you.

“You may receive a sentence of up to six months’ imprisonment and/or a fine of up to £5,000.”

The note, signed by “The Occupiers”, also warns: “If you want to get us out you will have to issue a claim for possession in the County Court or in the High Court.”

Mass Stabbing at Sydney, Australia Mall; Knifeman Shot Dead by Policewoman

A mass stabbing attack at the Westfield Bondi Junction Shopping Centre in Sydney, Australia took place Saturday afternoon local time. Several people, including a baby, were reported wounded in the attacks, with several reported killed. The knifeman was reportedly shot and killed in the mall by a policewoman who quickly responded to reports of the attack.

At a press briefing Saturday evening local time, police reported that five people were killed and several other wounded were taken to hospital, including a young child. Police said the knifeman is believed to have acted alone, however they said they do not have any information on him as of the briefing, nor do they have evidence of a motive. The policewoman shot the man when he turned and raised his knife at her.

An NSW Ambulance spokesman said eight victims were transported to hospital and six were declared dead at the scene. These numbers could change as more information is developed.

A protester arrested inside Bakersfield City Council chambers Wednesday night is accused of 16 felony counts after she made a threatening comment to council members and the mayor.

Riddhi Patel, 28, was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of eight counts of threatening with intent to terrorize and another eight counts of threatening certain city officials during her comments on enhanced security at the meetings.

Gabriela Lynn Mota, Lorena Salinas, Lance Mack and Ashley Vega have been charged in connection to a meeting March 27 during which protesters clashed with police at the front doors of city hall after being removed from chambers. A glass door broke and an officer was injured, police said.

Mota and Salinas are both charged with felony resisting arrest, and Salinas also faces a felony count of vandalism, court records show. Additionally, both face misdemeanor counts of remaining at the scene of a riot and resisting arrest.

The language of the communist includes talk of revolution, threats and intimidation, followed by revolution and murder. It is a sign the U.S. is well into a slow-rolling communist revolution when an activist is bold enough to publicly threaten officials with revolutionary death to their faces.

President Trump flew into Atlanta Wednesday for a high dollar fundraiser and on the way stopped by a Chick-fil-A in the Vine City neighborhood where he was warmly received by workers and HBCU (historically black colleges and universities) students. Videos posted by the Trump campaign, RSBN and C-SPAN captured the visit.

The videos that are sure to shake up the Biden-Harris campaign show the friendly interaction between Trump and Black women working the counter at the Chick-fil-A and the hero’s welcome given Trump by Black supporters at the restaurant.

When Trump walked in he greeted the workers, ordering 30 milkshakes and chicken for customers while engaging in conversation that brought smiles to their faces.

A Proclamation on Transgender Day of Visibility, 2024

On Transgender Day of Visibility, we honor the extraordinary courage and contributions of transgender Americans and reaffirm our Nation’s commitment to forming a more perfect Union — where all people are created equal and treated equally throughout their lives.

I am proud that my Administration has stood for justice from the start, working to ensure that the LGBTQI+ community can live openly, in safety, with dignity and respect. I am proud to have appointed transgender leaders to my Administration and to have ended the ban on transgender Americans serving openly in our military. I am proud to have signed historic Executive Orders that strengthen civil rights protections in housing, employment, health care, education, the justice system, and more. I am proud to have signed the Respect for Marriage Act into law, ensuring that every American can marry the person they love.

Transgender Americans are part of the fabric of our Nation. Whether serving their communities or in the military, raising families or running businesses, they help America thrive. They deserve, and are entitled to, the same rights and freedoms as every other American, including the most fundamental freedom to be their true selves. But extremists are proposing hundreds of hateful laws that target and terrify transgender kids and their families — silencing teachers; banning books; and even threatening parents, doctors, and nurses with prison for helping parents get care for their children. These bills attack our most basic American values: the freedom to be yourself, the freedom to make your own health care decisions, and even the right to raise your own child. It is no surprise that the bullying and discrimination that transgender Americans face is worsening our Nation’s mental health crisis, leading half of transgender youth to consider suicide in the past year. At the same time, an epidemic of violence against transgender women and girls, especially women and girls of color, continues to take too many lives. Let me be clear: All of these attacks are un-American and must end. No one should have to be brave just to be themselves.

At the same time, my Administration is working to stop the bullying and harassment of transgender children and their families. The Department of Justice has taken action to push back against extreme and un-American State laws targeting transgender youth and their families and the Department of Justice is partnering with law enforcement and community groups to combat hate and violence. My Administration is also providing dedicated emergency mental health support through our nationwide suicide and crisis lifeline — any LGBTQI+ young person in need can call “988” and press “3” to speak with a counselor trained to support them. We are making public services more accessible for transgender Americans, including with more inclusive passports and easier access to Social Security benefits. There is much more to do. I continue to call on the Congress to pass the Equality Act, to codify civil rights protections for all LGBTQI+ Americans.

Transgender Day of Visibility was invented by an activist in 2009 who set the date of the annual observance for March 31. It is not a federally mandated day of observance such as Vietnam Veterans Day set on March 29 which was signed into law by President Trump in 2017 and was observed on Friday. A spokeswoman for First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, Ed.D., posted a statement Saturday afternoon on (accurate) reports that religious themed Easter Eggs were banned under rules for a White House contest for children of National Guard soldiers, saying the reports are “misleading.”

Elizabeth Alexander, who holds the lengthy job title of White House Deputy Assistant to the President and Communications Director for the First Lady, posted, “*Fyi on all the misleading swirl re White House and Easter: the American Egg Board flyer’s standard non-discrimination language requesting artwork has been used for the last 45 years, across all Dem & Republican Admins—for all WH Easter Egg Rolls —incl previous Administration’s.”

Alexander’s statement is itself misleading, conflating the decades long tradition of the corporate trade group American Egg Board presenting a decorated Easter Egg to the First Lady with the recent children’s Easter Egg contest initiated by Jill Biden in 2021. The rules for the children’s egg contest were chosen by the Biden White House. That they track with the rules for the American Egg Board is the choice of Jill and Joe Biden. Regardless, the rules for the American Egg Board White House Easter Eggs are dictated by the administration.

A check of previous reports on military children participating in the annual White House Easter Egg Roll do not show any mention of an Easter Egg decorating contest (2009 report and 2016 report).

The flyer for the 2024 children’s contest states it was created in 2021 by the Biden White House. The flyer also states the winning egg designs will be displayed during the religions seasons of Easter and Passover.

We have to be totally neutral in everything we do and have it just be focused on egg promotion and marketing activities. And this is obviously a huge opportunity for us to showcase the incredible eggs in a really fun and unique way.”

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre posted a statement to X Twitter Saturday night promoting Transgender Day of Visibility after Joe Biden faced a barrage of criticism for issuing a White House proclamation declaring tomorrow, Easter Sunday, Transgender Day of Visibility. The Trump campaign called Biden’s proclamation “blasphemous” and demanded an apology to Catholics and Christians.

The Trump campaign issued a statement Saturday blasting Joe Biden’s “blasphemous” proclamation of Easter Sunday as Transgender Day of Visibility. The campaign also criticized Biden for barring religious themes from a White House Easter Egg contest for children of National Guard members.

Transgender Day of Visibility was started by an activist in 2009 who set the day of the annual observance for March 31. It is not a federally mandated day of observance such as Vietnam Veterans Day set on March 29 which was signed into law by President Trump in 2017 and was observed on Friday.

Neither Barack Obama nor President Trump observed Transgender Day of Visibility while in office. Joe Biden became the first president to do so in 2021 and he has issued proclamations declaring March 31 Transgender Day of Visibility each year since. Biden and other Democrat officials are being criticized for maintaining the March 31 observance even though it falls this year on Easter Sunday.

Obama posted a statement last year, “On this Transgender Day of Visibility, Michelle and I want every trans person in America—and around the world—to know that we see you and we stand with you. Every LGBTQIA+ person deserves to feel safe and protected.”

Sen. Tuberville on Joe Biden’s Easter Blasphemy: “Democrats Are a Satanic Cult”

Reacting to reports the Biden White House has banned religious themes for an Easter Egg contest for children of National Guard members, Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) posted a statement Friday night that said, “Because @TheDemocrats are a Satanic cult.”

Tuberville repeated the observation Saturday in a comment on Joe Biden proclaiming this Easter Sunday “Transgender Day of Visibility.”

Trump to Address “Biden’s Border Bloodbath” in Grand Rapids, Michigan Speech Days After Previously Deported Illegal Alien Was Charged in Murder of Young Woman, Ruby Garcia

President Trump will address “Biden’s Border Bloodbath” in a speech Tuesday afternoon at the Grand Rapids Convention Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The speech comes days after an illegal alien from Mexico who had been deported by the Trump administration in 2020 was charged in the March 22 murder of 25-year-old Ruby Garcia whose bullet-riddled body was found dumped on a Grand Rapids highway.

Garcia worked for a local greenhouse according to her sister, Mavi Garcia, reported WXMI-TV (excerpt):

Garcia says Ruby worked in quality control at a local greenhouse. She leaves behind two brothers too.

“She was a great daughter, sister, aunt and friend,” said Garcia. “She will be remembered as being full of life and laughter. Those who were around her [knew] she was silly and made everyone laugh. Her loss has impacted the lives of many people. Her life was taken too soon. She deserved to live life, travel the world, have kids and follow her dreams.”

Earlier in March, Trump met with the family of 22-year-old Laken Riley, the University of Georgia nursing student who was attacked and beaten to death on February 22 while she was out for a run on campus. An illegal alien from Venezuela has been charged in her murder.

Court documents reveal an illegal Mexican immigrant charged with the murder of Ruby Garcia had several run-ins with police before he was deported in 2020.

Garcia’s body was found on U.S. 131 Friday, according to Michigan State Police. Garcia was a Grand Rapids resident.

Brandon Ortiz-Vite, 25, was charged with the following Tuesday: felony murder, open murder, carjacking, carrying a concealed weapon, and felony firearm.

According to federal agencies, Ortiz-Vite reentered the country illegally at an unknown date and time.

Suspect Charged in Homicide of Grand Rapids Woman
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 26, 2024
GRAND RAPIDS, MI. On Friday, March 22 at approximately 11:35 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Grand Rapids Post were dispatched to a report of a deceased adult female on the shoulder of southbound US-131 at Leonard Street. Upon arrival, troopers discovered the body of 25-year-old Ruby Garcia of Grand Rapids. Based on initial observation and evidence at the scene, foul play was suspected.

Through investigative leads, Garcia’s unoccupied vehicle was located on Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m., parked in a residential area north of South Haven in Allegan County. A person of interest had been developed but not located.

On Sunday, March 24 at 10:35 a.m., Allegan County Central Dispatch was contacted by the person of interest sought by detectives for questioning. He was located in the 2200 block of 68th Street in Fennville, taken into custody as a suspect in Garcia’s homicide, and lodged in the Kent County jail. Investigators determined Ortiz-Vite and Garcia were in a romantic relationship at the time of the crime.

On Wednesday, March 26, (sic) Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker issued the following charges against 25-year-old Brandon Ortiz-Vite:

Felony Murder, punishable by a maximum penalty of life in prison without the possibility of parole
• Open Murder, punishable by a maximum penalty of life in prison with the possibility of parole
• Carjacking, punishable by a maximum penalty of life in prison
• Carry Concealed Weapon, punishable by a maximum penalty of five years in prison
• Use of Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, punishable by two years in prison, consecutive to the underlying felony charge

Ortiz-Vite was arraigned in 61st District Court and remains lodged in the Kent County jail with no bond issued. Mr. Ortiz-Vite and Ruby Garcia were in a romantic relationship at the time of this incident.

Detectives wish to thank the Kent County Sheriff’s Office, Grand Rapids Police Department, Grand Rapids Fire Department, Allegan County Sheriff’s Office, South Haven Police Department, and the MSP Wayland Post for their assistance during this investigation.

At a high dollar fundraiser in New York City Thursday night, Joe Biden cracked a joke about his German Shepherd dogs attacking Secret Service agents. The attacks by Commander and the Bidens’ previous Shepherd Major were so numerous and severe that the each dog was exiled from the White House and Biden family–but only after news of the attacks leaked to the media.

Biden appeared on stage at Radio City Music Hall with Barack Obama and Bill Clinton in a joint interview with CBS Late Show host Stephen Colbert at the $25 million fundraiser where tickets cost up to $500,000.

After one incident, East Wing public tours were stopped for approximately 20 minutes due to the blood on the floor from the attack in the area of the “Booksellers.”

…Judicial Watch FOIA requests and lawsuits exposed initial White House falsehoods about the severity and number of attacks by the Bidens’ previous dog, Major. Judicial Watch then received a tip that Commander was also attacking Secret Service personnel and uncovered documents last July showing 10 biting incidents.

According to a Judicial Watch source, President Biden mistreated his dogs. The source disclosed Biden punched and kicked his dogs.

The latest records forced out by Judicial Watch include a spreadsheet of 22 incident reports between October 2022 and June 2023, 10 of which requiring medical treatment.

…A January 28, 2023, email chain discusses three biting incidents, “2 incidents today and one yesterday.” Later that day, a Presidential Protection Division official whose name is redacted emails Senior White House Advisor Anthony Bernal that “Commander bit one of the Navy Staff” who worked at Camp David.

A photo is attached to a June 11, 2023, email from the Presidential Protection Division to Volpicelli with the subject line “Dog Bite.” The photo shows the torn clothing of an agent who was bitten in the chest by Commander while the agent was attempting to open the door for Jill Biden to the Oval Dining Patio area of the White House. The agent required medical attention.

…On July 29, 2023, nearly six weeks after agents had compiled the list of 22 bite incidents, another attack of an agent occurred at Biden’s Rehoboth, DE, home. The July 30 incident report indicates:

Commander ran towards the direction of post [redacted] booth and bit SA [redacted] in the left forearm. Causing a severe, deep open wound. As a result of the attack SA [redacted] started to loose [sic] a significant amount of blood from [redacted] arm. SA [redacted] remained calm and walked away from the area looking for help.

Open Borders Advocates and Media Weaponize Deaths of Six Immigrant Workers Killed in Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse

While Baltimore and the nation are dealing with the collapse on Tuesday of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore Harbor following the allision of the Dali cargo ship into a support beam that resulted in the blocking of a major port and hazmat/commuter route (I-695), open borders advocates and some in the media are weaponizing the tragic deaths of the six road workers killed in the incident to score political points.

A crew of eight men filling potholes on the bridge were reportedly on a break in their cars parked on the bridge when the Dali struck at 1:27 a.m. EDT. One of the victims is said to have lived in the United States for 19 years, another for 17 years, however all six have been referred to in press reports as ‘migrants’ or ‘immigrants’ from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. The immigration status of the men has not been generally reported, however Voice of America reported one entered the U.S. illegally.

Of the two workers who survived and were rescued soon after the bridge fell, one was hospitalized and has since been released, while the second is reported to have refused being taken to the hospital. Two bodies have been recovered and four are still missing.

Six construction workers were killed when a cargo ship struck Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge early Tuesday, sending the workers into the water below, officials said.

According to Maryland State Police, troopers were called around 12:40 p.m. for reports of a pedestrian struck at a work zone on the Inner Loop of the Beltway near Security Boulevard.

Gustavo Torres, executive director of the Maryland based pro-illegal immigration group CASA spoke to NPR host Debbie Elliott about the challenges immigrants, legal and illegal, face and urged Joe Biden to pass amnesty (excerpt):

ELLIOTT: You know, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that up to a third of construction workers in 2020 were Hispanic, and many are foreign-born, and that they are at particular risk of fatal injuries because of the type of work that they do. How does this show up in the challenges that workers in your group face?

TORRES: Yeah, that is really, really a reality. In particularly the Washington, D.C., and Baltimore metro area, we have around 130,000 immigrants who work in this essential work. And we see – all the time see these kind of accidents. In fact, almost a year ago to the date of the bridge collapse and also on the 695 highway, six highway construction workers, half of them Latinos, were killed in Maryland after being struck by a speeding car. So that is the kind of situation that we see all the time. And they are people who are undocumented or they have TPS, which is a legal status – they cannot qualify to become U.S. citizens.

ELLIOTT: You’re talking about temporary protected status.

TORRES: And that is, in part, the reasons why they feel these kind of challenges, because they don’t have health insurance and they are very scared to report. So that is the kind of the situation that we face in the D.C. area and beyond.

ELLIOTT: Now, in addition to the victims and their families, there must be many more immigrants among the 15,000 people who work at the Port of Baltimore, for example. How does this tragedy affect the larger immigrant community in the region?

TORRES: It’s huge. I mean, it’s a big impact. And again, it’s because the way – how we feel right now, we feel under attack. As you know, it’s a lot of attacks to the immigrant community all the time. And we are scared, and people are scared. I know that people are super scared about this, and this kind of tragic is bringing more additional pain to our community. But it’s a community who are ready to keep fighting, a community who really, really want to make a difference in this country. And we are going to keep moving forward and make sure that we are going to finally one day pass immigration reform, or at least TPS. And the President Biden had that power to be able to provide legal status for our families.

Breaking: Massive Bridge Collapse in Baltimore; Large Sections of Key Bridge Fall into Patapsco River After Cargo Ship Collision Took Out Support Column

The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland collapsed early Tuesday morning after a cargo ship collided with and took out a support column. The Key Bridge is a major commuter route carrying the Baltimore Beltway I-695 over the Patapsco River at the southern end of the Baltimore Harbor. There are no official reports on casualties as of this writing. There are unconfirmed reports of several cars in the water as well as construction workers unaccounted for. As of just before 5 a.m. EDT, rescue crews have not pulled anyone out of the water, however the crew on the ship is reported to be safe and all accounted for. (Morning update: A road crew was fixing potholes on the bridge at the time. Two people were rescued from the water. One was not injured, the other was seriously hurt and is hospitalized. Six others are missing and being searched for. Still unknown as to the number of vehicles that were lost.)

Background on the Key Bridge via the Maryland Transportation Authority:

This outer crossing of the Baltimore Harbor opened in March 1977 as the final link in I-695 (the Baltimore Beltway). The 1.6 mile Key Bridge crosses over the Patapsco River where Francis Scott Key was inspired to write the words of the Star Spangled Banner. This facility also includes the Curtis Creek Drawbridge. Including the bridge and approach roadways, the facility is approximately 10.9 miles in length.

The Francis Scott Key Bridge opened in March 1977 and is named for the author of the Star Spangled Banner. The bridge is the outermost of three toll crossings of Baltimore’s Harbor. Upon completion, the bridge structure and its approaches became the final links in Interstate 695 (the Baltimore Beltway).

By the early 1960s, the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel (Interstate 895), the first crossing of Baltimore’s Harbor, had reached its traffic capacity, and motorists encountered heavy congestion and delays almost daily during rush hours. The State Roads Commission, predecessor of the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA), concluded there was a need for a second harbor crossing and began planning a single-tube tunnel under the Patapsco River, downstream from the Harbor Tunnel. The proposed site was between Hawkins Point and Sollers Point. Plans also were underway for a drawbridge over Curtis Creek to connect Hawkins Point to Sollers Point.

Contractors took borings of the harbor bottom in the spring of 1969. Bids for construction of the proposed tunnel were opened on July 30, 1970, but price proposals were substantially higher than the engineering estimates. Officials drafted alternative plans, including the concept of a four-lane bridge.

The bridge, at an estimated cost of $110 million, represented the best alternative because it allowed for more traffic lanes and carried lower operating and maintenance costs than a tunnel. In addition, a bridge would provide a route across the Baltimore Harbor for vehicles transporting hazardous materials (these materials are prohibited from both the Baltimore Harbor and Fort McHenry [Interstate 95] tunnels).

Construction on the Francis Scott Key Bridge began in 1972, and the bridge opened to traffic on March 23, 1977. Including its connecting approaches, the bridge project is 10.9 miles in length. Other structures along the thruway include a .64-mile dual-span drawbridge over Curtis Creek and two .74-mile parallel bridge structures that carry traffic over Bear Creek, near Bethlehem Steel’s Sparrows Point plant.

The Key Bridge is located in an area rich with American history. Scholars believe the span crosses within 100 yards of the site where Francis Scott Key witnessed the bombardment of Fort McHenry on the evening of Sept. 12, 1814. That battle inspired Key to write the words of the Star Spangled Banner.

Located just southeast of the bridge are the ruins of Fort Carroll, a 3.4-acre man-made island. The structure was designed by then Brevet-Colonel Robert E. Lee and named for Charles Carroll of Carrollton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.

Construction of the fort began in 1848, under the supervision of Brevet-Colonel Lee, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Fort Carroll was important for the defense of Baltimore — before the fort was created, the only military defensive structure between Baltimore and the Chesapeake Bay was Fort McHenry.

The government abandoned the fort as a military post in 1920, and the island was declared excess property in 1923. However, the War Department took no immediate steps to sell the land. In May 1958, a Baltimore attorney purchased the island for $10,000, but development plans never materialized. The fort now is deserted.

Along with the Fort McHenry and Baltimore Harbor Tunnels, the Francis Scott Key Bridge is part of a network of Baltimore Harbor crossings that provides convenient and safe transportation for local and interstate traffic.

UPDATE 4:45 a.m. EDT: Reuters reports all ship’s crew safe and accounted for (excerpt):

Ship tracking data from LSEG shows a Singapore-flagged container ship, the Dali, at the location along the Key Bridge where the accident occurred. The registered owner of the ship is Grace Ocean Pte Ltd and the manager is Synergy Marine Group, LSEG data show.

Synergy Marine Corp said that a Singapore-flagged container ship “Dali” collided with one of the pillars of the bridge and that all its crew members, including the two pilots have been accounted for and there were no reports of any injuries.

The AP reported rescuers are searching for at least seven people (excerpt):

“This is a dire emergency,” Kevin Cartwright, director of communications for the Baltimore Fire Department, told The Associated Press. “Our focus right now is trying to rescue and recover these people.”

He added that some cargo appeared to be dangling from the bridge.

Emergency responders were searching for at least seven people believed to be in the water, Cartwright said, though he said it’s too early to know how many people were affected. He called the collapse a “developing mass casualty event.”

He said agencies received 911 calls around 1:30 a.m. reporting that a ship leaving Baltimore had struck a column on the bridge. Several vehicles were on the bridge at the time, including one the size of a tractor-trailer truck.

The Baltimore Sun reported weather conditions at the site of the incident as of 4 a.m. (excerpt):

The National Data Buoy Center reported water temperatures in that area of the Patapsco were about 49 degrees at 4 a.m. The air temperature was 41 and winds were light.

The Baltimore Banner reported no rescues had been made as of just before 5 a.m. (excerpt):

“It’s believed that seven individuals may be in the Patapsco River that we are actively trying to locate using dive rescue team,” Cartwright said.

…Cartwright said officials had received reports that a construction crew in addition to multiple vehicles were on the bridge at the time of the collapse, but could not confirm that information yet. He said no one had been rescued from the waters as of just before 5 a.m., and that visibility in the water due to silt was “poor to none.”

UN Secretary-General António Guterres Calls for Reparations for Transatlantic Slave Trade

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres issued a call for reparations for the transatlantic slave trade in a issued statement Monday to mark the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

Guterres made his call for reparations using the language of the modern day progressives:

Netanyahu Cancels Israel Delegation Trip to US After UN Security Council Ceasefire Resolution Tied to Ramadan Passes With Biden Admin Abstention

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Monday he is cancelling a planned trip to the U.S. by an Israeli government delegation in response to the Biden administration abstaining from a U.N. Security Council vote on a resolution on the Hamas-Israel war calling for an unconditional Ramadan ‘ceasefire’ and hostage release, resulting in the resolution passing 14-0. The resolution in part says, “The Security Council…Demands an immediate ceasefire for the month of Ramadan respected by all parties.”

Netanyahu decried the U.S. allowing a resolution to pass that did not set as a priority the release of the Israeli (and American) hostages held by Hamas for nearly six months as a condition for a ceasefire.

Ramadan is a month-long Muslim religious observance that goes from March 10 to April 9 this year. The aggressor in the war, Hamas, is a Muslim terrorist group. The victim, Israel, is a Jewish nation. Yet the Biden administration allowed the Security Council to pass a resolution tied to observing the Islamic religion of the aggressor even though Hamas started the war with the jihad slaughter and kidnapping of over 1,000 Jews in Israel on October 7.

The Biden administration has been pressuring Israel to ease up on Hamas citing humanitarian concerns, urging Israel to not invade the southern Gaza city of Rafah to finish off Hamas in order to avoid Palestinian civilian casualties.

Bloomberg’s Jordan Fabian reported the response by White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby: “We’re very disappointed that they won’t be coming to Washington, DC to allow us to have a fulsome conversation with them about viable alternatives to going in on the ground in Rafah.”

The United States has abandoned its policy in the UN today. Just a few days ago, it supported a Security Council resolution that linked a call for a ceasefire to the release of hostages.

China and Russia vetoed that resolution partly because they opposed a ceasefire that was linked to the release of hostages. Yet today, Russia and China joined Algeria and others in supporting the new resolution precisely because it had no such linkage.

Regrettably, the United States did not veto the new resolution, which calls for a ceasefire that is not contingent on the release of hostages.

This constitutes a clear departure from the consistent US position in the Security Council since the beginning of the war.

Today’s resolution gives Hamas hope that international pressure will force Israel to accept a ceasefire without the release of our hostages, thus harming both the war effort and the effort to release the hostages.

Prime Minister Netanyahu made it clear last night that should the US depart from its principled policy and not veto this harmful resolution, he will cancel the Israeli delegation’s visit to the United States. In light of the change in the US position, PM Netanyahu decided that the delegation will remain in Israel.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has arrived for talks with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who invited his Israeli counterpart to Washington.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival, Gallant said, “We have no moral right to stop the war while there are still hostages held in Gaza. The lack of a decisive victory in Gaza may bring us closer to a war in the north.”

The defense minister is also expected to meet with Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan as well.

Gallant posted a video statement on his visit Monday (translation):

I begin my visit to Washington with the clear message I will deliver to National Security Advisor Sullivan and Secretary of State Blinken:

We have no moral right to stop the war in Gaza until we return all the abductees to their homes. Stopping the war in Gaza before a clear decision is made endangers Israel’s security and may bring us closer to war from the north.

The Times of Israel reported more of the statement by Gallant (excerpt):

“In the first meeting, with National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, I will make clear the importance of collapsing the Hamas regime and returning the hostages to their homes. We will act against Hamas everywhere, even in areas where we have not been yet. We will create an alternative to Hamas so that the IDF can complete its mission,” Gallant says.

“We have no moral right to stop the war in Gaza until we return all the hostages to their homes. If we don’t reach a clear and absolute victory in Gaza, it could bring a war in the north closer,” he adds.

Ohio GOP Senate Candidate Bernie Moreno Surges to Lead After Trump Rally (TGP Photos)

Ohio Republican Senate primary candidate Bernie Moreno surged to a lead in a poll taken after President Trump headlined a rally for him on Saturday in Dayton.

The Emerson poll released Monday afternoon has Trump endorsed businessman Moreno at 38 percent, with establishment candidate state Sen. Matt Dolan at 29 percent and Secretary of State Frank LaRose fading to 12 percent. With leaners, Moreno tops Dolan 44 to 40 percent, just within the margin of error, with LaRose at 16 percent.

Other speakers at the rally in support of Moreno included South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem and Ohio’s Rep. Jim Jordan and Senator J.D. Vance.

Dolan was endorsed last week by Ohio establishment Republicans Gov. Mike DeWine and former Senator Rob Portman. The primary is on Tuesday. The winner will take on three-term incumbent Democrat Senator Sherrod Brown.

The rally was the subject of national attention after the media, Democrats and the Biden campaign tried to foist a hoax on the American public over Trump saying the auto industry and country would face a ‘bloodbath’ if he was not elected because Joe Biden’s policies would help China and Mexico gut American auto manufacturers.
