WASHINGTON — Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard accused corporate media outlets of parroting “propaganda” talking points from the White House regarding controversial videos of President Joe Biden.
Gabbard, who ran as a candidate for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, spoke with The Daily Signal on Friday at the Road to Majority conference in Washington, D.C., where she addressed the Biden White House dismissing videos highlighting Biden’s declining mental acuity as “cheap fakes.”
“It made me laugh, because I’m obviously familiar with how the mainstream propaganda media works,” said Gabbard, who served four terms in the House as a Democrat, but has since become an independent. “And when you look at the montage of all of these different people, on many cable networks or broadcast networks, and they’re literally all using the same talking point. They warn misinformation, disinformation—[but] they are doing it right now.”
“We are not stupid, and I think that’s the thing that is most fascinating to me. They really think that we are that stupid, to buy their spin on the unfortunate reality of what we’re seeing, which is President Biden’s deteriorating condition.”
A number of recent videos of Biden at various public events show the president looking confused, freezing up, or wandering away from the location where he’s supposed to speaking or standing. At a D-Day anniversary event in France, for example, videos show him turning away from a group of other world leaders. Another video, at a campaign fundraiser, shows former President Barack Obama leading him off stage.
The White House has repeatedly claimed that such videos are edited.

“It’s also very insulting to the folks, the viewers who are watching it,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told MSNBC on Tuesday. “And so, we believe we have to call that out. We’ve been calling it ‘cheap fakes.’ That is something that came directly from the media outlets in calling it that, the fact-checkers … calling it that. And so we’re certainly going to be really, really clear about that as well. And calling it out from where we are, from where we stand.”
White House spokesman Andrew Bates similarly told Fox New Digital that the videos are the products of “discredited right-wing critics” of the president.
“Their panicked reaction to mainstream reporters, including at The Washington Post, NBC News, and PolitiFact, citing misinformation experts taking anti-Biden cheap fakes apart says more than we ever could,” Bates told Fox News Digital.

Newsmax announced this month that it’s planning for an initial public offering later this year or in 2025—a big leap for a media outlet that began more than 25 years ago as a website delivering news on the internet.
Christopher Ruddy, Newsmax’s founder and CEO, spoke with The Daily Signal about his plans for the company and explained how eligible investors are able to take advantage of a private placement offering before the company goes public on the stock market.
“Thousands of people would tell us they wanted to buy shares in Newsmax through the years,” Ruddy said. “And we thought, wouldn’t it be great to have tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, of co-owners [and] partners with Newsmax that are fighting for us [and] have a stake in our success? And so that was the biggest reason.”
Now more than ever, especially in this election year of 2024, America needs Newsmax, and you can join with us as an investor,” Ruddy said.
After working as a journalist at the New York Post and Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Ruddy started Newsmax in 1998. In the years that followed, he transformed Newsmax into a broadcasting and multimedia powerhouse reaching more than 40 million people.
Newsmax’s TV channel is the fourth-highest-rated on cable news. And it’s just one of several media properties in addition to its website, Newsmax.com: There’s also a free streaming channel at Newsmax2, a smartphone app, a streaming service called Newsmax+, and Newsmax Magazine.
Now, as he prepares for Newsmax’s initial public offering and eventual listing on Nasdaq or the New York Stock Exchange, Ruddy is seeking to raise $225 million as part of a private offering for accredited investors. More details are available at NewsmaxInvest.com.
Listen to an interview with Ruddy on “The Daily Signal Podcast” to hear his vision for Newsmax, the threats and challenges facing conservative media, and why he’s optimistic about the future.

The Left’s media narrative factory is working overtime on its latest and greatest attempt at gaslighting.
OK, here it is, here’s the whopper you have to believe to be an ally of “our democracy” in good standing: President Joe Biden is fit as a fiddle, yes siree.
All those videos you’ve seen of him staring into space, moving awkwardly, falling, garbling words, shaking hands with the air, forgetting names, describing recent conversations with people who’ve been dead for years, and being led around by handlers like a child? Just fake news.
Here’s White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre telling reporters Monday that every video you’ve seen of the president looking “frail” and “confused” is nothing but a “cheap fake.” (This was an apparent spin on a “deepfake,” a digitally enhanced video that’s hard to distinguish from reality.)
BREAKING: KJP claims that the videos of Joe Biden freezing are "cheap fakes” and “manipulated” videos.

Jean-Pierre quotes The Washington Post, supposedly to debunk these videos and never actually says that they’ve been digitally altered. How convincing.
I think I’ll personally start using “cheap fake” as a new-fashioned phrase to replace “Orwellian.” It now means that a regime apparatchik is telling me I need to stop believing in something I can clearly see with my own eyes but is demanding I turn off my brain to ignore it.
It couldn’t be more obvious that the White House and its Democrat media allies think that Biden’s health issues—I know I’m not supposed to say that, but bear with me here in the realm of reality—are a big problem politically.
They also know that the crisis is escalating. Sure, sometimes Biden seems sort of all right, but even at his best, the president is noticeably slower than he was a few years ago, even six months ago. The number of odd incidents seems to be growing.
First, The Wall Street Journal published a lengthy, damning piece in early June highlighting that Biden has shown signs of slipping “behind closed doors.”
Now I know what you’re thinking: “What, he hasn’t been showing signs of slipping in public?”
Obviously, he has. Biden’s declining health has been a problem since he ran for president in 2020. It’s been worsening since then, as age-related decline is wont to do.
But when The Wall Street Journal weighs in, it’s different. It’s a signal that media elites no longer can ignore or dismiss the problem outright.
Biden’s media friends went into attack mode in an attempt to smear the Journal, of course, along with pretty much anyone who would dare suggest that something is wrong with the president.
But the bad news kept coming. New videos of Biden behaving strangely have surfaced almost daily.
At an early Juneteenth celebration June 10 outside the White House, the president appeared to be frozen in place with a bizarre grin while everyone around him danced.

Biden looked particularly bad at events in France commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day, which took place just days after the Journal published its piece.
In one instance, Biden seems to be hesitantly moving to sit down during a ceremony with French President Emmanuel Macron and awkwardly freezing in place. The Associated Press, bless its heart, appears to have a “contextualize all the times Biden looks weird and ancient” beat; the wire service fact-checked video of the incident.
You might be seeing a clip on social media that appears to show President Biden trying to sit in a chair that isn't there. However, this video doesn't show the full context of the moment.

Does the fact that Biden was trying to sit in a chair rather than no chair matter much here?
The problem is that he seemed to hover in a semi-squat onstage for an absurdly long time. He doesn’t look right and anyone watching it can tell.
It got worse.
In another video that went viral, Biden and a group of other world leaders are observing military parachutists land all around them. Biden suddenly wanders off before being gently brought back to the group by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
President Biden appeared to wander off at the G7 summit in Italy, with officials needing to pull him back to focus. https://t.co/M50eobWwHr pic.twitter.com/Uaw1etcUB8
— New York Post (@nypost) June 13, 2024
Biden’s media white knights leaped in to “correct” the record, saying that Biden actually wandered off to talk to parachutists just out of the camera shot and that the New York Post and other media outlets were “liars!” for posting the videos without that context.
But the media’s contextualizing doesn’t really make the situation look any better. The problem isn’t just that Biden often seems to wander. It’s the way he wanders and the reactions of those around him.
Then came, in my mind, the most damning and symbolic video.
At a big Democrat Party fundraiser over the weekend, Biden seemed to freeze again onstage. Was he just basking in the adulation and applause of the crowd? I guess that’s one interpretation.
But the weird pause is not the biggest problem here. What makes this video really stick out is the way former President Barack Obama, who many suspect really pulls the strings in the White House, takes Biden by the wrist and essentially leads him offstage like a child.
The Left and the media (but I repeat myself) are working overtime trying to debunk this- claiming that Obama didn’t lead Biden off stage. Unfortunately for them, it’s literally on video.

Would be a shame if this went viral again! pic.twitter.com/1kGNMNqV4n
Anyone who has been around people who are elderly or in physical and mental decline understands what’s happening. Those around Biden are trying subtly to aid the president without embarrassing him, but the signs are hard to hide.
The issue is that Biden isn’t just any average retiree in his twilight years. He’s expected to be the president of the United States, who has awesome responsibilities and whose judgment may decide the fate of millions.
Yet the White House and corporate media are saying, “Don’t let your lying eyes deceive you. He’s fine, I tell you.”
Here’s MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace, parroting Jean-Pierre as she argues that videos of Biden looking awful are all just a product of “right-wing media” that selectively edit videos to mislead viewers.
.@NicolleDWallace?: “There’s a growing & insidious trend in right-wing media … to take highly misleading & selectively edited videos of Pres. Biden … and use those videos to spread messages virally to cast doubt on Pres. Biden’s fitness for office.” pic.twitter.com/Im5r6y9HDA
— Tom Elliott (@tomselliott) June 17, 2024
But there’s no evidence of actual tampering in any of these videos, and in some—like the Obama/Biden one—the full, wide shot looks worst of all.
Biden partisans are even trying to turn the tables by saying that former President Donald Trump is the one who looks old and unwell. Here’s a photograph of Trump shaking hands with his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., while heading to a stage.
It doesn’t look anything like what we saw with Biden and Obama.
Many point out that Trump is only three years younger than Biden, so any age concerns about Biden also should apply to Trump.
But much to the media’s frustration, few are buying that. Not everyone ages the same way. For whatever reason, Biden is slipping sooner. It’s not hard to figure out.
That’s why this whole thing is so devastating and why the Left’s gaslighting about Biden’s condition isn’t catching on. This isn’t a matter of policy or ideas, where one can turn to lies or sophistry to delude the public.
You don’t need to be a constitutional lawyer or a policy wonk to see that Biden is in steep physical and mental decline.
If Biden looks this bad in public, you can bet that the problem is much worse in private, as The Wall Street Journal reported.
It’s why Republicans in Congress are right to demand the audio tapes of Biden’s interviews with special counsel Robert Hur over his possession of classified documents from his years as a senator and vice president. Hur decided not to bring charges against Biden because he is an “elderly man with a poor memory” and “diminished faculties.”
Just how diminished is he?
Given the demands on a modern American president, we should be concerned. If Biden really is out to lunch, then who is really running the executive branch?
The American people have a right to know.

Former President Donald Trump delivered a “focused” pitch to America’s top CEOs and received a loud ovation at the conclusion of his Business Roundtable remarks Thursday, an attendee at the meeting told The Daily Signal.
That’s a stark contrast to reporting from New York Times columnist and CNBC host Andrew Ross Sorkin, who told “Squawk Box” viewers Friday that Trump was “meandering, could not keep a straight thought, was all over the map.” Sorkin was not present at the Business Roundtable meeting.
Hours later, White House Senior Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates amplified Sorkin’s spin on X. CNBC and other liberal media outlets ran with the story, and an MSNBC blogger suggested Trump’s appearance raised “concerns about his cognitive state.”
But is any of it true?
“It’s a clear bunch of BS,” according to the attendee. “This is a farce all the way around.”
News outlets mostly stuck to the substance of Trump’s remarks in their initial coverage Thursday: He spoke about cutting corporate taxes from 21% to 20%, after reducing the rate from 35% during his presidency.
The media narrative began to change Friday, starting with Sorkin’s CNBC commentary.
I will say I was surprised. I spoke to a number of CEOs who I would say walked into the meeting being Trump supporter-ish, or thinking that they might be leaning that direction, who said that he was remarkably meandering, could not keep a straight thought, was all over the map, and that they – which, maybe not surprising – but was interesting to me because these were people who, I think, might have been actually predisposed to him and actually walked out of the room less predisposed to him, actually predisposed to thinking ‘This is not necessarily,’ as one person said, ‘this may not be any different or better than a Biden thought, if you’re thinking that way.’
By Friday night, the Biden campaign’s official X account was promoting the Sorkin clip.

But the attendee who spoke with The Daily Signal said Sorkin’s interpretation is wrong. (The Daily Signal granted the attendee anonymity to speak candidly about the private meeting.)
“There was never a moment of meandering,” the attendee said. “He was focused. In fact, he received a loud ovation at the end.”
The attendee added: “There was not one CEO who wasn’t impressed with what they heard from Trump. Everybody was clapping.”
Sorkin did not immediately reply to The Daily Signal’s request for comment.

The nation’s most self-impressed journalists, the ones who strangely self-identify as “mainstream,” could not bring themselves to treat the Hunter Biden trial as comparable in any way to Donald Trump’s trial in Manhattan. Treating Hunter as a significant “news” subject gives them the creeps, like they’ve been drafted into Rupert Murdoch’s army.
So it’s a little shocking the Hunter trial gained about half as much coverage as Trump’s—at least through the first eight days of coverage. On the ABC, CBS, and NBC morning, evening, and Sunday interview shows, Trump’s trial drew more than 174 minutes, while Hunter’s trial drew 85 minutes. (By the Trump trial’s end, they filled the air with 640 minutes.)
It’s less shocking to notice the difference in tone. Trump’s trial was a “criminal” trial about “hush money.” On April 25, fill-in CBS anchor Margaret Brennan announced, “The former president faces 34 felony counts of falsifying business documents related to a so-called hush money payment to a porn star.” Other stories fussed that Trump was bullying and threatening witnesses and court staff.
Hunter Biden stories were loaded with empathy. On June 3, ABC’s Terry Moran relayed: “President [Joe] Biden released a statement standing by his only surviving son, saying in part ‘I have boundless love for my son.’” CBS reporter Norah O’Donnell echoed him that night on “the president’s only surviving son.” On June 10, NBC fill-in anchor Tom Llamas began: “For the first time, the child of a sitting president facing a potential criminal conviction. Right now, a jury deliberating the fate of Hunter Biden, the sole surviving son of the president.”
Hunter Biden is 54 and network anchors refer to him as a “child.”
The contrast in tone tells you that the media elites loathe Trump but treat the Biden family like they’re close friends who they want to surround and protect. There was a sense of glee when Democrats began crowing about Trump the “convicted felon.” Then came the sorrow that they only had 11 days to celebrate before the president’s son drew the same label.
Then came the stubborn facts. Conservative outlets like the New York Post were more interested in how prosecutors based their case on the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop, and the court verified it as evidence. CBS never mentioned this. ABC gave 10 seconds, and NBC offered 30 seconds acknowledging the laptop’s use in court. None of them revisited their 2020 performance, when they all robotically regurgitated the Biden campaign spin that the laptop was “garbage” carrying the “earmarks of a Russian information operation.”
Prosecutors not only mined the laptop but used Hunter’s addiction memoir “Beautiful Things” against him. That was quite a backfire, after the pro-Biden networks (and their affiliated comedians like Jimmy Kimmel) gushed over Hunter’s memoir as “catharsis” for the 50-something child. Back in 2021, CBS donated 25 minutes of airtime to syrupy interview segments with the addict. Maybe “donated” is the wrong word since CBS-affiliated Simon & Schuster published the book.
These guilty verdicts will not affect the pro-Biden media’s incessant efforts to tout the Biden family as a selling point for the Democrats. They couldn’t stop talking after the verdict about how the first lady was in the courtroom almost every day, and how the president scores points with voters when he talks about how much he loves his “only surviving son.”
They will keep spinning in desperation that Hunter Biden‘s epic crack-and-hookers binges somehow make the Bidens more sympathetic to Americans with addicts in their family. Journalists were given cocaine-powdered lemons, and the lemonade they are making is a heady brew. But not everyone wants to drink it.
