Liz Cheney Says Supporting Kamala Harris Is ‘Faithful to the Constitution’

By: Ann Moreno — October 21st 2024 at 19:41

Liz Cheney, the former GOP congresswoman who is a fierce critic of Donald Trump, said Monday that she supports Vice President Kamala Harris for president over Trump because she will be faithful to the U.S. Constitution.

“The most conservative of all conservative principles is being faithful to the Constitution,” Cheney told the crowd at a town hall-style event in Malvern, Pennsylvania, the first of a series of campaign stops with Harris almost exactly two weeks before the Nov. 5 election.

“And you have to choose in this race between someone who has been faithful to the Constitution, who will be faithful, and Donald Trump,” Cheney said.

Many fellow Republicans were jubilant when Cheney was defeated in Wyoming’s 2022 primary by Harriet Hageman, a lawyer who capitalized on Cheney’s sharp criticism of Trump. Hageman went on to win the House seat that November.

Now as then, Cheney cites the Capitol riot of Jan. 6, 2021, which erupted as Congress was certifying Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election, when she talks about Trump’s lack of faithfulness to the Constitution.

“I know how quickly democracies can unravel and I know that as Americans we can become accustomed to thinking, ‘Well, we don’t have to worry about that here,’” Cheney said. “I have seen firsthand how quickly that can happen, and that’s what’s at stake on this ballot.”

Cheney is the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, another conservative political foe of Democrats who won their applause by endorsing Harris over Trump shortly after she did.

Cheney was vice chair of the House select committee to investigate the events of Jan. 6 at the Capitol. She was one of two Republicans on the nine-member panel, all appointed by then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

“I come to this as a mother. I have five children,” Cheney told the crowd at the Harris rally, describing how she didn’t want them to live in a country where events such as Jan. 6 could happen again.

“I believe that every one of us … has a duty and an obligation to do what we know is right for the country, and that is to support Vice President Harris,” she added.

Harris herself brought up Trump’s political opponents among top officials of his administration, including former chief of staff John Kelly, a retired Marine Corps general, and retired Army Gen. Mark Milley, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Kelly once referred to Trump as “fascist to the core,” Harris said.

Harris and Cheney also spoke about abortion when answering questions about women’s health issues from the audience.

Cheney criticized the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, in which the high court overturned Roe v. Wade and the policy of abortion on demand after 50 years, sending the question back to state voters or legislatures.

Women haven’t gotten the kind of abortion care they need since then, Cheney said, characterizing Trump as a cruel misogynist.

“We have the chance to reject the cruelty, … the misogyny that we’ve seen from Donald Trump and [Sen.] JD Vance,” Cheney said, referring to Trump’s running mate, who represents Ohio in the U.S. Senate. “We have the chance in this race to elect someone who is going to defend the rule of law … we have the chance to remind people we are good and honorable people, we are a great nation.”

Harris said the government has no right to tell women what they can or can’t do with their own bodies.

“I feel very strongly that the government should not be telling any woman what to do with her body,” Harris said, “and when Congress passes a law reinstating the reproductive freedoms of women, I will gladly and proudly sign it into law.”

On ‘The View,’ Walz Gets Redo on How Harris Would Differ From Biden

By: Nicole Silverio — October 21st 2024 at 17:52

DAILY CALLER NEWS FOUNDATION—“The View” co-host Sara Haines gave Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz a chance Monday to clean up Vice President Kamala Harris’ answer on what she would do differently as president from the Biden-Harris administration.

Harris received widespread criticism after she told “The View” co-hosts during an Oct. 8 appearance that “nothing comes to mind” on what she would do differently than President Joe Biden.

Haines gave Walz the option to answer that question during his appearance Monday, leading the Minnesota governor to say that they would focus on fixing the economy and Medicare.

“Governor, voters are saying change is a critical issue this election, but our ABC poll shows only a third of Americans believe that a Harris-Walz ticket would bring that change,” Haines said. “I want to pose a similar question to you that we asked Vice President Harris: Can you point to a policy decision over the last four years that you and the vice president would’ve handled differently from President Biden?”

“Well, I think this expansion on Medicare is something that I wish would’ve been proposed sooner,” Walz replied. “But look, they’re tackling the issues that they needed to, they came out of a pandemic that Donald Trump had left a mess for, an economy with supply chains that were broken.”

“But I think that focusing on this economy, the two things that this vice president proposed that I hear everywhere, especially in rural America, is this question of affordability on child care and the ability of seniors to get health care, protecting that,” Walz said. “So I think just in this last week, you saw a major rollout in protecting rural hospitals. This is a big issue.”

Walz argued that Harris is “her own leader” and will bring “a new way forward” if elected president.

Harris said Friday that she can’t be “critical” of any policies put forth by Biden when NBC News chief White House correspondent Peter Alexander asked her to name a single policy she would do differently.

The vice president clarified that she intends to expand Medicare, grant first-time homebuyers $25,000 in down payment assistance, and emphasize the importance of small businesses.

An average of 28% of Americans say they believe the U.S. is on the right track, setting a precedent for Democrats to lose the Nov. 5 election, CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten said during an Oct. 4 segment.

Harris intended to create a distance between herself and Biden’s policies, particularly on the economy and inflation, in an attempt to rebrand herself as a change candidate, anonymous advisers told Axios in August.

Team Harris’ Campaign of Condescension Draws Pushback

By: Victor Davis Hanson — October 21st 2024 at 14:49

The election is finally shaping up to be not only liberal Democrat Kamala Harris versus conservative Republican Donald Trump.

Instead, it has become a larger contest between those who talk down to their fellow Americans and those who are increasingly sick and tired of being lectured.

How smart is it, for example, for Harris supporters to claim nonstop that ex-President Trump is a fascist dictator—and thus, by extension, those also who vote for him?

Female voters poll in favor of Harris. Trump enjoys a similar, although likely somewhat smaller, majority margin of male voters.

Yet Harris—along with campaign surrogates Barack Obama and Bill Clinton—has been lecturing both black and white male voters nonstop that they are misled.

Or they supposedly suffer from false consciousness—as if they have no clue that Harris and her progressive agenda are really in their own self-interest.

Such haughtiness reached a zenith when Harris ran ads of actors costumed as supposedly working-class men. They voiced scripted talking points to prove that “real” men are progressive Harris supporters.

But the actors were so patently ridiculous, their canned lines so unreal, that most viewers likely thought the ads were run by Trump himself—to show how arrogant, out-of-touch elites must imagine how the so-called “clingers” and “deplorables” think and talk.

The Trump campaign also tries all sorts of strategies to win over female voters, from promising to rectify the Biden-Harris hyperinflation to reducing spiraling crime in towns and cities.

But one method it avoids is claiming women are ignorant of their real self-interest and deluded by Harris, accurately assuming that a candidate does not win voters by belittling their intelligence.

Harris and Obama both dressed down black men, claiming they are especially culpable for not voting en masse for Harris—even though a far higher percentage of black males will vote for Harris than for Trump.

This hectoring the electorate on its supposed ignorance or moral shortcomings has become a Harris campaign trademark.

To Harris, objecting to 10 million to 12 million foreign nationals entering the country illegally without background checks during the Biden-Harris administration is supposedly a sign of a lack of compassion.

And claiming that a current declining rate of illegal immigration should allay voters’ supposed paranoias utterly ignores the millions of illegal aliens who were all but welcomed in by Biden-Harris before the 2024 election cycle.

Voters are also talked down to ad nauseam that they do not appreciate the Biden-Harris economy, given the rate of inflation is falling.

True. But most voters go shopping in a manner politicians do not.

So, they resent such top-down sermons. They know best that prices for staple foods, fuel, insurance, and housing have spiked by some 20% to 30% since 2021—and stayed astronomically high.

Currently, the auto industry is in crisis. Its huge inventory of electric vehicles sits unwanted and unsold. Harris and the Left, remember, mandated all sorts of EV standards in their war against the internal combustion engine.

Then the proverbial people revolted against the comparatively limited range of EVs and the difficulty in finding accessible and quick-charging stations.

So, the free market and consumer demand ignored the increasingly strident lectures.

Likewise, Harris pontificated that crime that had spiked from 2021 to 2023 is now not all that bad.

But voters know all too well that their major cities are now unsafe. They sense one reason this year that crime is not soaring as it was two years ago is because it had gotten so bad that any further commensurate increases would have made life utterly unlivable.

The Harris campaign was further hurt by past videos that keep popping up of Harris lecturing voters about how they either must think correctly or remain cluelessly selfish or ignorant.

So, a recent clip surfaced on Columbus Day 2021 of Harris lecturing America about Western civilization’s “shameful” sins in discovering the New World.

Another video reveals Harris warning the country in 2020 on national television that the massive post-George Floyd demonstrations—that had turned violent and deadly—would not and should not stop, as if the country had to pay collective penance for its sins.

This 2024 race may be becoming analogous to an October 1980 teachable moment.

Then a preachy and sanctimonious incumbent President Jimmy Carter—ahead in the final October polls over challenger Ronald Reagan—finally turned off voters for good.

The previously underdog Reagan won in a landslide for a variety of reasons. But certainly, one explanation was that the electorate had finally collectively shrugged off their weariness. They were sick and tired of Carter’s downer lectures about how they were wrong and culpable.

Reagan, however, reminded voters that America was better than all of the alternatives, needed not be perfect to be good, and had nothing to apologize for.

The same contrast will likely determine the election of 2024.

Border Patrol Agents Vow to Quit If Harris Wins

By: S.A. McCarthy — October 19th 2024 at 07:00

The illegal immigration crisis facing the U.S. has drastically worsened ever since Vice President Kamala Harris was appointed the incumbent administration’s “border czar” in 2021.

Terrorist threats are on the rise, violent migrant gangs are roaming the streets, small towns are being decimated by state-sanctioned immigrant dumpings, American children are being slain by migrants, and migrant children are being sex trafficked by gangs and cartels.

But according to reports, the crisis could deepen further if Harris were to win November’s election.

According to The New York Post, U.S. Border Patrol agents are “threatening” to resign in droves if Harris is elected president. “I’m not doing this sh** again … four years of hell,” one agent said. The Post noted that he is “nowhere near retirement,” but is “absolutely sure” that he would quit if Harris were to win in November. Another agent warned, “Lots of guys who can retire will go. If Trump wins, they’ll stay.”

One agent anticipated that his colleagues with five to 10 years of Border Patrol experience will try to find other jobs, while those who have served at least 20 years will simply walk away. “We will have another exodus just because we will have a bunch of 20-year agents saying ‘peace out,’” he said.

Another agent said that no one wants to work Border Patrol under the Biden-Harris administration because the administration undermines the job. “Under this administration, they’ve done everything they could to make our job as inefficient as possible. They can’t outwardly tell us not to do our job, but when you’re watching criminals come in and get released, it sucks,” he commented.

Border Patrol has been steadily hemorrhaging agents ever since President Joe Biden took office in January 2021. Over a quarter of agents, totaling more than 4,000, have quit, leaving the crucial agency with roughly 19,000 employees. On average, more than 1,200 Border Patrol agents have resigned per year under the policies of Biden and his “border czar,” Harris.

The National Border Patrol Council, the largest union representing Border Patrol agents, has been openly critical of Harris’ failure to address the surging border crisis and has warned that, as president, she would continue to do damage.

Late last month, when Harris visited Douglas, Arizona, for a campaign event, she made numerous claims regarding the nation’s southern border and its security, including taking credit for increasing overtime pay for Border Patrol agents. “This couldn’t be further from the truth. As with all things border-related, she was nowhere to be found when we needed her,” the National Border Patrol Council quickly responded.

The council continued, “Vice President Harris has ignored the border problem she created for over three years. She goes down there for 20 minutes for a photo op and decides to repeat some of the things the [National Border Patrol Council] has said before. But again, where has she been the last 3-1/2 years?”

When Trump himself visited Arizona on Sunday, the council formally endorsed him. Its president, Brandon Judd, said that Biden and Harris treat the U.S. border as “nothing more than an imaginary line in which crossing it illegally carries no penalty,” adding that the policies of Biden or Harris will make America into a nation “where lawlessness will reign, and where enforcement of laws will become a pastime.”

Trump, however, is “the polar opposite,” Judd said. “He has worked tirelessly and against great opposition to make this country safe, to make our neighborhoods safe, and most importantly, make our children safe,” he continued. Biden and Harris offer only “rhetoric,” the border patrol group president quipped, but “President Donald Trump, on the other hand, has accomplishments.”
