Joe Biden granted clemency to 16 criminals on Wednesday, with 11 individuals being granted pardons and five commutations.
The majority of the individuals granted pardons were convicted of drug offenses such as distributing cocaine and having possession of hard drugs.

President Joe Biden has granted clemency to 16 people who were convicted of non-violent drug crimes, issuing pardons to 11 men and women and commuting the sentences of five other people in the latest use of his clemency power to address racial disparities in the justice system.
Biden said in a statement Wednesday that April is Second Chance Month and that many of the individuals getting clemency had received “disproportionately longer” sentences than they would have under current law.
The Democratic president is campaigning for reelection in November and is grappling with how to boost support from communities of color that heavily supported him over Republican Donald Trump in the 2020 election. The two rivals are headed for a likely rematch in November.

The University of Southern California has announced it will cancel its main graduation ceremony over security concerns.
In recent weeks, pro-Palestine protests have erupted all over USC’s campus, causing significant security risks on campus.
Many of the protests have been organized by USC Divest from Death Coalition, an organization that is demanding USC to cut financial ties with Israel.
After canceling the graduation ceremony, USC wrote to students, “We understand that this is disappointing; however, we are adding many new activities and celebrations to make this commencement academically meaningful, memorable, and uniquely USC.”
The protests on USC’s campus grew larger last week after USC decided to inform valedictorian Asna Tabassum that she would not be allowed to deliver a speech at graduation, citing potential campus security risks.
Tabassum believes she was nixed from delivering the speech due to her vocal support of Palestinians in Gaza.

The University of Southern California canceled its main stage graduation ceremony Thursday as college officials across the U.S. worried that ongoing campus protests against the Israel-Hamas war could disrupt May commencement ceremonies.
Some universities called in police to break up the demonstrations, resulting in ugly scuffles and dozens of arrests, while others appeared content to wait out student protests as the final days of the semester ticked down.
USC announced the cancellation of the May 10 ceremony a day after more than 90 protesters were arrested on campus. The university says it will still host dozens of commencement events, including all the traditional individual school commencement ceremonies where students cross a stage and receive their diplomas.
Tensions were already high after the university canceled a planned commencement speech by the school’s pro-Palestinian valedictorian, citing safety concerns.
Over 90 protesters were arrested just one day before USC announced the cancellation of the graduation ceremony.

Conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas poked holes in special prosecutor Jack Smith’s theory that Trump is the first president to face criminal charges because former presidents have never committed crimes.
The Supreme Court on Thursday heard oral arguments on Trump’s presidential immunity claim in Jack Smith’s January 6 case in DC.
Jack Smith’s prosecutor Michael Dreeben went before the Supreme Court on Thursday and argued presidents do not have immunity for their official acts conducted during their time in the White House.
Dreeben further argued that no former president besides Trump has ever committed crimes.
In response to Dreeben’s argument, Justice Clarence Thomas stated, “Over the not-so-distant past … certain presidents had engaged in various activities, coups or operations like Operation Mongoose when I was a teenager, and yet there were no prosecutions.”
Operation Mongoose was a CIA covert operation that was authorized under President Dwight Eisenhower and continued under the Kennedy administration.
Under the operation, the CIA conducted terrorist attacks against Cuban civilians and attempted several assassination attempts against Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.

The lawyer representing special counsel Jack Smith on Thursday asserted that the reason former President Donald Trump is the first president to face criminal charges is because his predecessors did not commit any crimes.
Department of Justice counselor to Smith, Michael Dreeben, went before the Supreme Court to argue presidents should not have constitutional immunity from prosecution for official acts conducted during their presidency. Dreeben suggested that no president until Trump has ever committed crimes when Supreme Court Justice

A Louisiana judge has sentenced a man to physical castration after pleading guilty to raping a 14-year-old girl.
According to District Attorney Scott Perrilloux, on April 17th, Glenn Sullivan,54, pleaded guilty to four counts of second-degree rape.
On Monday, Louisiana Judge William Dykes sentenced Sullivan to be physically castrated along with serving a 50-year prison sentence.
Assistant District Attorney Brad Cascio told the press, “I’ve had three people ordered to be chemically castrated, but, to my knowledge, this is the first physical castration to be ordered.”
In 2008, Louisana enacted a law that ordered men convicted of certain rape crimes to be castrated chemically or have the option to be physically castrated.

Glenn Sullivan, Sr., 54, pleaded guilty to raping a teen multiple times, resulting in pregnancy, according to prosecutors.
A Louisiana man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison and will be physically castrated after pleading guilty to raping a 14-year-old girl, District Attorney Scott Perrilloux announced.
On April 17, Glenn Sullivan, Sr., 54, of Springfield, pleaded guilty to four counts of second-degree rape.
On Monday, Judge William Dykes sentenced Sullivan to 50 years in prison and mandated him to be physically castrated, which was part of his plea agreement with prosecutors, Perrilloux said in the statement.

Cacao trees in West Africa, where 50% of the world’s chocolate originates, are currently under threat by a virus that may jeopardize the global supply of chocolate.
In a new scientific study, researchers from the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana and the University of Kansas, Prairie View A&M, reported that the cacao swollen shoot virus disease (CSSVD), caused by tiny insects called mealybugs, has endangered cacao trees in the Ivory Coast and Ghana.
Harvests in the Ivory Coast and Ghana have been cut by 15% to 50% since the virus has wreaked havoc on cocoa trees.
To combat the pesky virus, researcher Chen-Charpentier from the University of Kansas, Prairie View A&M, has advocated for vaccinating cocoa trees and spreading them out from one another.
Chen-Carpentier stated, “What we needed to do was create a model for cacao growers so they could know how far away they could safely plant vaccinated trees from unvaccinated trees in order to prevent the spread of the virus while keeping costs manageable for these small farmers.”

A rapidly spreading virus threatens the health of the cacao tree and the dried seeds from which chocolate is made, jeopardizing the global supply of the world’s most popular treat.
About 50% of the world’s chocolate originates from cacao trees in the West Africa countries of Ivory Coast and Ghana. The damaging virus is attacking cacao trees in Ghana, resulting in harvest losses of between 15 and 50%. Spread by small insects called mealybugs that eat the leaves, buds and flowers of trees, the cacao swollen shoot virus disease (CSSVD) is among the most damaging threats to the root ingredient of chocolate.
Chen-Charpentier and colleagues from the University of Kansas, Prairie View A&M, the University of South Florida and the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana have developed a new strategy: using mathematical data to determine how far apart farmers can plant vaccinated trees to prevent mealybugs from jumping from one tree to another and spreading the virus.
“Mealybugs have several ways of movement, including moving from canopy to canopy, being carried by ants or blown by the wind,” Chen-Charpentier said. “What we needed to do was create a model for cacao growers so they could know how far away they could safely plant vaccinated trees from unvaccinated trees in order to prevent the spread of the virus while keeping costs manageable for these small farmers.”

Democrat U.S. Representative Donald M. Payne Jr. (D-NJ) has died at the age of 65.
In a statement on X, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy confirmed Rep. Payne’s death and wrote, “Tammy and I are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of our friend, and a steadfast champion for the people of New Jersey, Congressman Donald Payne, Jr.”
As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, Payne, who was a firm advocate for Covid-19 vaccines, suffered a heart attack on April 6 after having complications with diabetes.
On April 17th, a press release from Payne’s office stated Payne was in “stable condition,” but a report from the Daily Mail refuted Payne’s office’s claims that Payne was in stable condition and reported that Payne was actually in a coma.

The National Transportation Board has reported a Douglas C-54 airplane that was transporting fuel crashed into a river in Fairbanks, Alaska.
The Alaska Department of Public Safety reported, “The aircraft slid into a steep hill on the bank of the river, where it caught fire. No survivors have been located.”
There were two people onboard the aircraft at the time of the crash.
A preliminary report by authorities revealed the Douglas C-54 aircraft was conducting a fuel transport flight that was being operated by Alaska Air Fuel when it crashed into the frozen Tanana River at around 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the NTSB.

A Douglas C-54 Skymaster airplane carrying two people crashed into the Tanana River near Fairbanks on Tuesday and burst into flames, authorities said. No survivors have been found.
The plane took off in the morning from Fairbanks International Airport. It crashed about 7 miles (11 kilometers) from there and “slid into a steep hill on the bank of the river where it caught fire,” according to Alaska State Troopers.
Clint Johnson, chief of the National Transportation Safety Board’s Alaska regional office, said it remained unclear what happened in the time between the takeoff and the crash but the tower operator “saw a large plume of smoke.”
Michaela Matherne was flying from the village of Galena to Fairbanks to catch a flight to New Orleans when her small plane was diverted to verify the coordinates of the crash site.

Mike Emers, who owns a farm near where the plane crashed, shared he saw one of the engines of teh Douglas C-54 aircraft on fire.
Emers stated, “There was a four-engine plane, and one of the engines was on fire; probably 10 seconds later, there was a big explosion that rocked the ground. And then explosions happened after that.”

MacDill Air Force Base’s tarmac was infiltrated by an unlikely reptile: an alligator.
On Monday, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (CWC) was called to remove a 10-foot-long alligator that made its way onto the tarmac at MacDill Air Force Base.
Airmen first spotted the alligator resting underneath the wheel of one of the many aircraft on the tarmac.
The base later released a video of the alligator being wrangled by two CWC officials.
After struggling with it early on, CWC officials eventually captured the alligator and released it into a nearby river.

An alligator may have been testing security at MacDill Air Force Base when the reptile wandered onto one of its runways.
Video posted on the base’s Facebook page shows the reptile being wrangled by Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission officers next to an airplane.
MacDill joked that the gator was pushed out of its home by Elvis, an even bigger gator known to frequent the area.
The base thanked FWC for the help and added that the gator had been relocated to a more suitable location.

A video of a Florida alligator trapper went viral on Monday after he successfully wrangled an alligator in the middle of a road.

The Tennesse House of Representatives passed a bill on Tuesday that will allow trained teachers to carry guns inside classrooms.
In a 68-28 vote, the House passed SB1325, allowing trained teachers and other school staff to carry into the school.
Only four Tennessee House Republicans voted against the bill, and all Tennessee House Democrats voted against the bill.
The bill will now head to Governor Bill Lee’s desk, where he is expected to sign the bill into law.

The bill requires teachers and staff who wish to be armed in school to first receive permission from the school’s superintendent and principal.
It also requires teachers and staff to complete training in school policing, undergo a background check, and have a psychological examination.

Tennessee House Republicans on Tuesday passed legislation to allow some trained teachers and school staff to carry handguns despite pleas from Democrats, students and gun-reform advocates to defeat the bill.
Dozens of protestors in the galleries began chanting “Blood on your hands” as soon as the legislation passed, prompting House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, to order state troopers to clear the galleries. Many protestors continued to chant and stomp down at lawmakers as the House floor fell into chaos over parliamentary issues.
Four Republicans ultimately crossed the aisle to join Democrats in voting against the bill, with another three abstaining from the vote. Still, the measure easily sailed through the House on a 68-28 vote and is all but guaranteed to become law within weeks, as Gov. Bill Lee can either sign it into law or allow it to become law without his signature. Lee has never vetoed a bill.
Armed teachers, who will be required to undergo training that some opponents have argued is not intensive enough, will be allowed to carry handguns in their classrooms and in most campus situations without informing parents and most of their colleagues they’re armed.
Moments after the House passed the bill, protestors flooded the Tennessee House gallery and started to chant, “Blood on your hands.”

Legendary Mount Everest pioneer George Mallory’s final letter to his wife has been published after being held secret for over 100 years.
The letter from Mallory, published by his alma mater, Cambridge University, expressed the difficulties he faced during his final expedition.
In the letter, Mallory told his wife, “Darling, I wish you the best I can – that your anxiety will be at an end before you get this – with the best news, which will also be the quickest.”
“It is 50-to-one against us, but we’ll have a whack yet and do ourselves proud. Great love to you. Ever your loving, George,” added Mallory.
Mallory concluded his letter to his wife by writing, “The candle is burning out, and I must stop.”
Mallory disappeared in 1924 along with his climbing partner Andrew Irvine, 22, during their expedition to reach the summit of Mount Everest.
In 1999, Mallory’s body was discovered below the peak, but it’s unknown whether he died before or after he reached the summit.
Irvine’s body has never been discovered.

A BBC World Service news report from May 4, 1999 stated: “An expedition to Mount Everest has found the body of the famous British climber, George Mallory, who disappeared 75 years ago a short distance from the summit. The team said they spotted the corpse protruding from the snow about 600m below the top of Everest. Mallory’s name tag was on the clothing and a rope was still round his waist.”
The first documented ascent came nearly three decades later when New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Nepalese Sherpa Tenzing Norgay scaled the mountain on May 29, 1953. Magdalene College posted Mallory’s letters online to mark the centenary of his ill-fated attempt to stand atop the world. The collection, which had previously been available to researchers, also includes letters he wrote from the battlefront in World War I and correspondence he received from others, including his wife.
The only surviving letter his wife wrote from England during the expedition was sent as his party sailed toward Bombay. It recounts a recent snowstorm, how her bank account was overdrawn and how she fell off a ladder before telling him how much she missed him.

The U.S. government has donated 100,000 doses of anthrax vaccines to Ghana’s government in an effort to support the country’s anthrax vaccination program.
The U.S. Government donated the vaccines through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
The anthrax vaccines that were donated were not for human usage but rather for livestock that are susceptible to being infected with anthrax.
USAID Ghana Mission Director Kimberly Rosen, in a press release, stated, “Anthrax not only threatens human life. When it destroys livestock, it also threatens economic prosperity and food security.”
Anthrax is caused by the bacteria Bacillus anthracis, a spore-forming bacterium that can live in the ground for decades.
Natural outbreaks of anthrax among livestock don’t pose a severe risk to humans unless a person has direct contact with affected livestock; the weaponized version of anthrax, however, is highly deadly.

The United States Government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is donating 100,000 doses of the anthrax vaccine in support of the Government of Ghana and U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) anthrax vaccination campaign. The campaign is expected to cover about one million animals across the five regions of the north.
“Anthrax not only threatens human life. When it destroys livestock, it also threatens economic prosperity and food security,” said USAID/Ghana Mission Director Kimberly Rosen during the launch.
Before the launch event, Ms. Rosen and partners from FAO to tour the Vaccine Production Unit of the Central Veterinary Laboratory in Pong-Tamale. In support of domestic manufacturing capacity, USAID recently purchased 100,00 anthrax vaccines from the Central Veterinary Lab to donate to the anthrax vaccination campaign.
“During our tour of the Central Veterinary Laboratory this morning, it was clear that with some automation and more investment, the lab could produce larger quantities of vaccines to meet the national market and also be exported. More vaccines means healthier animals, safer humans and potential revenue and job creation for the Veterinary Service Department,” she added.
The U.S. Government is not just concerned with anthrax infecting livestock in Africa, but the Department of Defense has been stocking up on anthrax vaccines in preparation for a possible anthrax attack.
As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, Biopharmaceutical company Emergent BioSolutions (EBS) signed a massive $235.8 million contract with the Department of Defense in January to supply the U.S. military with its BioThrax anthrax vaccine.

The United Kingdom’s lone munitions filing factory exploded on Wednesday, just two days after a fire erupted at the Scranton Army Ammunition Plant in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
As The Gateway Pundit previously reported on April 15th, the Scranton Army Ammunition Plant (SCAAP), the United States’ primary producer of 155mm artillery shell bodies, caught fire.
Just two days later, on April 17th, a section of the United Kingdom’s lone munition factory exploded after a single shell went off inside the factory.
The explosion occurred at the BAE Systems munitions factory in Glascoed, Wales.
BAE Systems is the biggest defense contractor in Europe and the 7th largest in the world.
The cause of the explosion at the munition factory is currently being investigated.

Locals living close to a BAE Systems weapons plant rocked by an explosion earlier today say the blast ‘felt like an earthquake’ as a shell went off.
The blast took place at the BAE Systems munitions factory in Glascoed, Monmouthshire shortly before 10.50am.
MailOnline understands the explosion relates to a single shell going off at the munitions filling factory, run by BAE, Europe’s biggest military contractor.
Emergency services were deployed to the site, which is spread across a large field close to the south-eastern village; locals say the blast ‘wasn’t loud, but felt like an earthquake’.
BAE Systems has promised a full investigation into the incident at the factory, which is the UK’s last remaining munitions filling factory.

In a press release on Friday, the World Health Organization reported that the H5N1 bird flu virus had been detected in high concentrations in raw milk from infected mammals.
The report comes a month after the Texas Department of State Health Services confirmed the first human case of H5N1.
During the press briefing in Geneva, Wenqing Zhang, WHO’s head of the global influenza program, said that H5N1 has been detected in raw milk from infected mammals.
Wenqing Zhang, WHO’s head of the global influenza program, stated, “Bird-to-cow, cow-to-cow, transmissions have been registered during these current outbreaks, which suggests cow-to-bird tra that the virus may have found other routes of transition than we previously understood.”
Zhang continued to share that the virus was discovered in “very high virus concentration in raw milk” that was not pasteurized.

The strain has led to the deaths of tens of millions of poultry, with wild birds and land and marine mammals also infected.
Cows and goats joined the list last month — a surprising development for experts because they were not thought to be susceptible to this type of influenza.

The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has reported an 18-year-old Honduran man who was arrested in connection with a vehicle crash that killed a staffer to Democrat U.S. Senator Catherine Masto entered the U.S. illegally.
Elmer Rueda-Linares,18, was involved in a two-way vehicle crash on April 6th that killed Kurt Englehart, a senior adviser to Sen. Cortez Masto.
After the deadly crash occurred, Rueda-Linares fled the scene of the accident and was later charged with felony hit and run.
Rueda-Linares’s felony hit-and-run has since been dropped, and he has now been charged with “failing to stop at the scene of an accident.”
ICE told Fox News that Rueda-Linares entered the U.S. in March of 2021, near Rio Grande City, Texas, without receiving any inspection from immigration authorities.

Elmer Rueda-Linares was in a two-vehicle crash about 4:30 a.m. April 6 at Kietzke and Peckham lanes that killed Kurt Englehart, state senior adviser to Cortez Masto, a Democrat.
On April 8, federal officers placed an immigration detainer — or “ICE hold”— on Rueda-Linares, who is being held at Washoe County Jail, the Department of Homeland Security told the RGJ in a statement Tuesday.
The initial charge against Rueda-Linares of felony hit-and-run has been changed to failing to stop at the scene of an accident, according to the sheriff’s office. He is being held on $100,000 bail.

The Daily Mail has reported Democrat Rep. Donald M. Payne Jr. (D-NJ) has been in a coma for 11 days following a heart attack on April 6.
As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, Rep. Payne, who has been a firm advocate for COVID-19 vaccines, suffered a heart attack after having complications with diabetes.
On April 9th, Payne’s office released a statement stating, ‘Currently, Payne is recovering in the hospital as doctors conduct routine exams to monitor and observe his improvement.”
In the latest press release from Payne’s office, a statement read, “Congressman Donald M. Payne, Jr. suffered a cardiac episode based on complications from his diabetes last week. Today, he is in stable condition at a local hospital and continues to be under doctor’s care. While we hope for a full recovery, we ask everyone to keep him in your prayers.”
Payne’s office’s latest statement is severely understated compared to the Daily Mail’s latest report, which claims Payne has “yet to awake after suffering the heart attack.”

Several states lost access to 911 emergency call services late last night causing many residents not to have any access to emergency services.
Nebraska, South Dakota, Texas, and Nevada residents experienced emergency service outages from around 10 p.m. to midnight.
Authorities in Texas reported the outages were due to “an outage with a major cellular carrier” but did not elaborate on which carrier was responsible.
The outages were first reported in Las Vegas, which caused the Las Vegas Police Department to urge those needing emergency services to dial 911, and dispatchers would call them back.
Outages in Texas, Nevada, and Nebraska were only reported in several cities and towns, but South Dakota experienced a state-wide outage.

Multiple states lost access to emergency dispatchers late last night, meaning that residents could not call 911.
The issue affected parts of Nebraska, Texas and Nevada, and all of South Dakota. The outage was first reported around 10 p.m. local time. Service was restored around midnight, officials said.
In Texas, the City of Del Rio Police Department said the outage was because of “an outage with a major cellular carrier.” The department did not specify which cellular carrier was responsible.
Affected areas recommended that residents call non-emergency numbers amid the outage.
In Las Vegas, Nevada, officials said that 911 calls from landlines were not working, but that dispatchers could still see incoming calls. Dispatchers worked to call back numbers that dialed in, officials said on social media. According to Henderson County, Nevada officials, texts to the 911 number were coming through even when the phone line wasn’t working.
Hours before the 911 services were disrupted, ABC News released an article stating the Department of Homeland Security is concerned that emergency services are likely targets for cyberattacks.

The NBA has banned Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter for life after violating NBA gambling rules.
According to ESPN, Porter provided inside information to bettors and limited his participation in games due to gambling purposes.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver released a statement saying, “There is nothing more important than protecting the integrity of NBA competition for our fans, our teams, and everyone associated with our sport, which is why Jontay Porter’s blatant violations of our gaming rules are being met with the most severe punishment.”
In an internal investigation, the NBA discovered before a game on March 20th that Porter gave information to a bettor regarding his health status.
After obtaining the inside information, the bettor bet on an online sportsbook that Porter would not reach the stat line set for him in the parlay.
Just a few minutes into the game, Porter checked himself out, claiming he was sick and did not reach the numbers set for him in the parlay.
Porter’s move would have won the bettor $1.1 million, but the bettor’s account was frozen due to the suspicious actions, and an investigation ensued.

California police arrested several Google employees after staging an anti-Israel sit-in protest inside Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian’s office in Sunnyvale, California.
Employees participating in the sit-in were protesting against Google’s $1.2B contract with Israel’s government, known as Project Nimbus.
According to National Review, the pro-Palestinian protestors who are connected to the group “No Tech For Apartheid” were streaming the protest for over 10 hours before police got involved.
Similar protests erupted outside of Google’s offices in New York and Seattle.

An Indiana National Guard member reportedly shot an illegal immigrant who stabbed another unlawful immigrant at the U.S.-Mexico border.
According to an internal Border Patrol bulletin obtained by News Nation, a member of the Indiana National Guard discharged his weapon at an illegal alien, stabbing another illegal immigrant on U.S. soil near the edge of the Rio Grande River.
The National Guard’s Media Department responded to the shooting by releasing a statement that reads, “The Indiana National Guard is aware of the incident that happened Sunday, April 14.”

An Indiana National Guard member was involved in a shooting at the southern border Sunday but details are scant while an investigation continues.
According to a NewsNation report, the soldier saw an individual stabbing a fellow migrant along the river’s edge in El Paso, which is on U.S. soil. The soldier shot at the individual, who ran back into Mexico. It is unclear what they were shot with or whether they were struck.
Indiana National Guard officials deferred specific questions to Texas military officials.
“The Indiana National Guard is aware of the incident that happened Sunday, April 14. We support and care for our soldiers and airmen supporting Operation Lone Star,” the Guard said in a statement.
The Texas Military Department released a statement saying “Early on the afternoon of 14 April, a National Guard Servicemember assigned to Operation Lone Star discharged a weapon in a border-related incident. The CNN weekly prime time talk show co-hosted by basketball loudmouth Charles Barkley and CBS morning star Gayle King has ended a six-month run that failed to produce ratings.
The weekly call-in show “King Charles,” which aired at 10 p.m. Eastern time on Wednesday nights failed to generate more viewers than reruns of the sitcom “Friends” and episodes of “South Park.”
It was the lowest-rated prime time weeknight series debut for CNN in at least a decade, according to Nielsen.
When the show launched in November, CNN said it planned to air it through the early spring.

The FBI has launched a criminal investigation into the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse that took the lives of six men.
The criminal probe by the FBI focuses on whether federal laws were violated by the 22-member crew on board the Dali and the ship’s owners.
According to NBC, the FBI is investigating whether the crew members knew the ship had potential mechanical problems.
On Monday morning, Federal agents boarded the Dali with search warrants.
A spokesperson for the FBI told the press, “The FBI is present aboard the cargo ship Dali conducting court-authorized law enforcement activity.”

Agents will investigate whether the 22-strong crew of the Dali knew it had serious systemic issues before they left the Maryland port on March 26.

A frightening video that has gone viral on X shows an organizer with the Anti-War Committee Chicago teaching far-left activists how to chant “death to America” and “death to Israel” during an “anti-war” conference held at Teamster’s Union’s Headquarters in Chicago, Illinois.
The Free Press reported during a breakout session at the “anti-war” conference, Shabbir Rizvi, who serves as an organizer with Anti-War Committee Chicago, began to teach far-left activists how to chant “death to America” and “death to Israel” in the Persian language Farsi.
Rizvi told the radical leftists in attendance to chant “Marg bar Israel,” which in Farsi means “death to” or “down with” Israel.
After the death to Israel chants concluded, one person in attendance at the break-out session asked, “Can we get a marg bar America?”
Rizvi responded to the man’s request, saying, “We can get a ‘marg bar America.”

The Louisiana House of Representatives has passed Bill 71, which requires all schools that receive state funding to display the Ten Commandments.
Bill 71, introduced by Rep. Dodie Horton (R), passed 82-19 and will now be voted on by Louisiana’s Senate.
The bill states,” Each public school governing authority and the governing authority of each nonpublic school that receives state funds shall display the Ten Commandments in each building it uses and classroom in each school under its jurisdiction.”
Bill 71 calls for all K-12 schools and colleges receiving state funding to display the Ten Commandments.
The Ten Commandments must also be framed and have minimum dimensions of eleven inches by fourteen inches.

The Louisiana House of Representatives approved the measure 82-19 and sent it on to the Senate for consideration.
If approved as written, House Bill 71 would apply to K-12 schools that are public or charter plus any non-public schools that receive state funds. The bill also would apply to public and non-public colleges. And there would have to be displays in in each building it uses.

In a bizarre incident, 26 barges broke loose in Pittsburgh and drifted uncontrollably down the Ohio River on Friday night.
Shortly after the barges broke free, Pittsburgh authorities closed the McKees Rocks Bridge and the West End Bridge “out of an abundance of caution.”
Authorities reported that eleven barges were stopped by running into a river bank by Brunot Island, and now tugboats are on the scene pulling the barges out.
Nine were found stopped at the Emsworth Lock and Dam.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are investigating after more than 20 barges broke loose and floated down the Ohio River.
The commander for the Pittsburgh district of the Army Corp of Engineers told KDKA the 26 barges that broke loose have been accounted for, with some of them resting against the Emsworth Lock and Dam on the Ohio River.
He said early investigation found no issues with the dam and no one was hurt.
Pittsburgh Police said the call came in around 11:30 on Friday night.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Coast Guard said 26 barges broke away from a vessel at mile marker one. Of the 26 barges, 23 were loaded and three were empty.

Grove City College is a conservative Christian college in Grove City, Pennsylvania.
In a press release, Grove City president Paul J. McNulty stated Pence will serve as a “distinguished visiting fellow for the new Center for Faith and Public Life.”
Pence’s duties at the College will include teaching a course, writing, speaking, and participating in events.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has raised eyebrows in the last several years for projects such as its Advanced Plant Technologies (plants that spy) and ReSource Program (which aims to turn trash into food).
If you have never heard of DARPA, it’s a research agency of the United States Department of Defense that creates innovative and cutting-edge technology for the U.S. military.
One of DARPA’s latest projects is the Manta Ray Project.
According to DARPA’s website, the Manta Ray Project seeks “to demonstrate innovative technologies allowing payload-capable autonomous unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) to operate on long-duration, long-range missions in ocean environments without the need for on-site human logistics.”
DARPA tapped defense contractor Northrop Grumman to create a prototype of the Manta Ray.

What is unique about the Manta Ray drone is that it can go on “long-duration missions, harvesting energy to power its trek.”

Developed as part of a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) initiative, Manta Ray incorporates technologies to enhance energy management, increase payload capacity, and optimise propulsion efficiency. A new study from Consumer Reports revealed that popular kids’ food Lunchables contains concerning amounts of lead in its pre-packaged meals.
Consumer Reports tested 12 Lunchable products in a study and discovered that five contained over 50% more lead than California’s legal amount.
Parents have been using Lunchables for decades for quick lunches, but the Consumer Report’s latest revelation might make parents reconsider their decision to feed their children the prepackaged lunch that usually consists of deli meat, cheese, and crackers.
Amy Keating, a dietitian at Consumer Report, stated, “There’s a lot to be concerned about in these kits.”
“They’re highly processed, and regularly eating processed meat, a main ingredient in many of these products, has been linked to increased risk of some cancers.” added Keating.

The popular kids snack Lunchables contains relatively high levels of lead and sodium, a consumer watchdog group warned Tuesday.
Consumer Reports (CR), a consumer advocacy group, said it tested 12 store-bought versions of Lunchables — which are made by Kraft Heinz — along with similar lunch and snack kits and found “relatively high levels of lead and cadmium” in the Lunchables kits.
Cadmium is a chemical element linked to negative effects on the kidney and the skeletal and respiratory systems and is classified as a human carcinogen, according to the World Health Organization.
There is not a safe level of lead for children, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes.
The sodium levels in the kits ranged from 460 to 740 milligrams per serving, nearly a quarter to half of a child’s daily recommended limit for sodium, CR said.

During March Madness, the New Jersey National Guard’s 21st Weapons of Mass Destruction-Civil Support Team (WMD-CST), Delaware National Guard’s WMD-CST, and Idaho’s National Guard WMD-CST conducted a hypothetical search for domestic nuclear terrorists inside the CURE Insurance Arena in Trenton, New Jersey.
The U.S. Army reported that the New Jersey, Idaho, and Delaware National Guard participated in interagency biological, chemical, nuclear, radiological, and explosives training from March 25 to 28, during the height of college basketball’s March Madness tournament.
Guard members, FBI agents, and state law enforcement officers were given a hypothetical scenario that stated, “In just a few hours, more than 10,000 people will crowd the facility to listen to the vice president of the United States.”
The scenario continued, “The FBI has just received intelligence that a well-resourced domestic terrorist group has planted bombs, including one with cesium-137 – a radioactive isotope –in the arena.”
After being given the domestic terroristic scenario, Guard members were commanded to search for the nuclear bomb inside the stadium that seats over 8,000 people.

AS THE NCAA finishes up March Madness, another type of madness is unfolding as the U.S. military retools its weapons of mass destruction response apparatus to focus not on attacks by familiar foreign terror groups like Al Qaeda or ISIS, but by American citizens.
Late last month, for the first time ever, the National Guard conducted an exercise simulating a frantic search for a nuclear dirty bomb at a basketball and hockey arena in Trenton, New Jersey. What made the exercise different from hundreds of such similar war games held since 9/11 is that purely domestic terrorists were identified as the perpetrators.
“The FBI has just received intelligence that a well-resourced domestic terrorist group has planted bombs, including one with cesium-137 — a radioactive isotope — in the arena,” the military said about the scenario for the exercise. “The clock is ticking.”
The CURE Insurance Arena in Trenton is a multipurpose facility able to seat 8,000. The arena aims to attract more college basketball matches, having hosted Princeton vs. Rutgers in November.

While most Americans were dialed in on the solar eclipse, the FBI quietly released unclassified documents regarding Ashli Babbitt, the Air Force veteran whom a Capitol Police officer killed on January 6th.
On April 8th, the FBI released a highly redacted 69-page file on details of Ashli Babbitt’s death, military background, and testimonies on Babbitt’s character.
On page three of the file, it was written, “BABBITT is deceased, and therefore, this case is not being nominated to TSDB.”
TSDB stands for “the terrorist screening data base.”
The TSDB “contains biographic and biometric identifying information (e.g., name, date of birth, photographs, iris scans, and/or fingerprints) of known and suspected terrorists.”
The fact the FBI even mentioned the TSDB goes to show the FBI viewed Americans inside of the Capitol as “terrorists” rather than American citizens who were simply frustrated with the way the 2020 election was conducted.
The file oddly made no mention of Capitol Police Officer Lt. Michael Byrd but instead generally stated Babbitt was “shot by police.”
The Gateway Pundit was the first publication to correctly identify Michael Byrd as Ashli Babbitt’s cold-blooded killer.
Later in the file, the FBI provides a brief overview of Babbitt’s personal information, such as her fingerprints, DMV records, and details regarding her military service.
Several pages were redacted that contained “anonymous tips” made by unnamed individuals through the FBI’s tip line.

One page of the file was an interview of an individual whose name was redacted.
The individual described Babbitt as a very outgoing and loving person who loved her family and country.
In the same interview, the person stated Ashli would “never go after someone physically.”
The Gateway Pundit previously reported Judicial Watch filed a $30 million wrongful death lawsuit against the U.S. government for the death of Babbitt.

Russia’s highest investigative body announced on Tuesday that it has launched an official criminal probe into senior officials in the United States and other NATO countries who are suspected of financing terrorism acts.
According to The Moscow Times, Russia’s Investigative Committee, which is the primary federal investigating authority of Russia, has accused U.S. Senior officials, NATO members, and the Hunter Biden-linked Bursima Holdings of financing terror attacks that have occurred both inside and outside of Russia.
The statement was made in a video released by the Committee but did not refer to a specific terror attack.
The Investigative Committee’s probe comes just a month after 144 people were killed in a terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall in Krasnogorsk, Russia last month.
In a video, the Investigative Committee shared that money from commercial organizations has been used in Russia to “eliminate prominent political and public figures.”
The Investigative Committee then singled out Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings for being one of the organizations that have allegedly financed terrorism.

Russia’s top investigative body announced Tuesday that it has launched a criminal probe into senior officials in the United States and NATO member countries who are suspected of “financing terrorism.”
Russia’s Investigative Committee, which probes major crimes, said it has “established” that money from commercial organizations had been used to “eliminate prominent political and public figures” inside and outside Russia in recent years, as well as to “inflict economic damage” against the country.
While the Investigative Committee did not specify which terrorist attacks it suspects were funded by Western organizations, the announcement comes as top Russian officials double down on claims that Ukraine and the West were involved in the deadly Crocus City Hall attack last month.
The top law enforcement body named the Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings as one of the implicated organizations. U.S. President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden served as a member of Burisma’s board of directors between 2014 and 2019.
This isn’t the first time Burisma Holdings has been accused of financing terrorism.
Richard Abelson of the Gateway Pundit previously reported that Ukrainian court documents from April of 2022 reveal Burisma was linked to a $5,950,000 payment sent to the Ukrainian foreign intel service GUR.
GUR chief General Kirill Budanov has previously claimed responsibility for assassinating high-profile Russians.

On Monday, the Florida Highway Patrol arrested a woman who reportedly went on a shooting spree on Interstate 10 in Holmes County, Florida, because of the solar eclipse.
Taylon Celestine, 22, has been charged with attempted murder, improper discharge of a firearm, and battery with a deadly weapon.
In a statement to the press, Florida authorities reported Celestine “had recently checked out of a local hotel and told the staff she was going on a shooting spree, directed by ‘God’ in relation to the solar eclipse.”

Florida Highway Patrol reported Celestine was driving a purple Dodge Challenger and began her shooting spree on Interstate 10 at the 112-mile mark when she began firing at a vehicle on the freeway.
The vehicle was struck multiple times, but the driver was able to pull off to the side and did not suffer any injuries.
Celestine continued driving after firing shots at the vehicle and opened fire again on marker 107, where she reportedly shot another vehicle, resulting in the driver being shot in the neck.
The driver of the vehicle was rushed to the hospital, and his medical status is currently being withheld from the public at this time.
Police later found Celestine at mile marker 96, where officers conducted a search of the woman’s vehicle and discovered an AR-15 and a handgun in her car.

During the solar eclipse, NASA launched three sounding rockets into the Earth’s atmosphere on Monday afternoon.
NASA scientists launched the rockets to observe “disturbances in the ionosphere when the moon eclipses the sun.”
The first rocket was launched 45 minutes before the eclipse, the second rocket was launched during the eclipse, and the third rocket was launched 45 minutes after the eclipse occurred.

The Atmospheric Perturbations around Eclipse Path sounding rockets will blast off from NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia, just so scientists can study the disturbances in the ionosphere when the moon eclipses the sun.
As the earth spins around its axis, closer to Monday, April 8, anticipation is mounting in the nation’s capital for the celestial spectacle – the highly anticipated “Great North American Eclipse.”
There will be three different launch times: 45 minutes before the peak eclipse, during, and 45 minutes after. NASA states that the different intervals are pivotal for collecting data on how the sun’s sudden disappearance affects the ionosphere — which the space agency says could potentially interfere with our communications on Earth.“Understanding the ionosphere and developing models to help us predict disturbances is crucial to making sure our increasingly communication-dependent world operates smoothly,” said Aroh Barjatya, a professor of engineering physics at Florida’s Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University campus.

After two years of hibernation, CERN will fire up the world’s largest Large Hadron Collider during the solar eclipse in an attempt to uncover unknown scientific phenomena such as dark energy, dark matter, and what the universe consists of.
According to CERN, the solar eclipse will not affect the beams in the LHC.
CERN website states, “Although the solar eclipse on April 8th will not affect the beams in the LHC, the gravitational pull of the moon, like the tides, changes the shape of the LHC because the machine is so big.”
In 2012, CERN gained worldwide attention after scientists reported finding the Higgs boson particle, also known as the ‘god particle.’
On its site, CERN describes the Large Hadron Collider as the “most powerful accelerator in the world, and it boosts particles, such as protons, which form all the matter we know. Democrat Governor Katie Hobbs of Arizona has just signed a bill that will make human compositing legal in the state of Arizona.
Hobbs just signed House Bill 2081, known as the ‘Grandpa in the Garden Bill,’ into law.
This bill will now allow people to turn their loved ones into soil in a process called human composting.
Human composting or natural organic reduction is the process of “breaking down human remains into usable compost or soil that can be returned to the bereaved family or contributed to a conservation area.”
The process involves placing a human body into large tanks containing wood chips, straw, and other natural materials for about four to six weeks until the body turns into soil.
After the composting process is finished, family members can use the soil to plant trees or place the soil in their gardens.

The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), along with other members of the U.S. intelligence community, are pushing for Congress to expand Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 in order to fight the ongoing fentanyl crisis.
According to the Brennan Center of Justice, Section 702, “Authorizes the government to collect the communications of non-Americans located abroad without a warrant from a court. While this surveillance is supposed to target foreigners, it inevitably sweeps in Americans’ private phone calls, emails, and text messages too.”
USA Today has reported that top CIA officials spent most of 2023-2024 urging members of Congress to reauthorize Section 702 of the FISA Act of 1978.
However, CIA officials believe in its current form, Section 702 limits the intelligence community from targeting everyone involved in the fentanyl trade overseas and are advocating lawmakers to expand Section 702 so U.S. spies will have more liberty when it comes to going after criminals engaged in the fentanyl trade.
Many lawmakers are skeptical of expanding Section 702 due to the CIA previously misusing the law to spy on American citizens.

The CIA and broader U.S. intelligence community want to do more to fight the fentanyl crisis killing tens of thousands of Americans a year, and they are quietly pushing Congress to let them expand their use of a controversial and top-secret eavesdropping program to do it, USA TODAY has learned.
Senior intelligence officials have spent the past year trekking to Capitol Hill to push for reauthorization of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978, which allows them to conduct warrantless eavesdropping on foreigners overseas.
As the nation’s primary spy outfit, the Central Intelligence Agency in particular says the intelligence collection allowed under Section 702 is urgently needed to thwart transnational organized crime groups manufacturing and smuggling the lethally potent synthetic opioid from China to Mexico and into the U.S.
Currently, the CIA can only use Section 702 against drug traffickers if it can connect them to one of the three “certified” threat groups. Obtaining a so-called “fourth certification” would allow U.S. spies to more freely go after those involved in the fentanyl trade without having to make such connections, the two senior U.S. intelligence officials said.

A massive cargo ship lost power in New York City waters just two weeks after the Dali ship lost power and crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland.
The United States Coast Guard reported that it received a report that the 89,000-ton Qingdao containership lost power around 8:30 pm on Saturday while navigating the waters between Bayonne, New Jersey, and Staten Island, New York.
A New York tugboat captain told John Konrad, the CEO of maritime-centered news site gCaptain, that the “Container ship APL QINGDAO lost power while transiting New York harbor. They had three escort tugs, but three more were needed to bring her under control.”

A massive container ship lost power in the waters around New York City and was brought to a rest near the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge Saturday night — less than two weeks after failure on another massive cargo vessel caused it to smash into Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge.
The US Coast Guard confirmed that its Vessel Traffic Service received a report that the 89,000-ton M/V Qingdao lost propulsion about 8:30 p.m. as it traversed Kill Van Kull waterway — the shipping lane between Staten Island and Bayonne, New Jersey.
An image shared on X by John Konrad, CEO of maritime-focused news outlet gCaptain, shows the 1,100-foot Qingdao floating uncomfortably close to the span that connects Brooklyn and Staten Island.
In response to the power failure, three tug boats were dispatched to bring the Qingdao under control.

The series of otherworldly photos Maria Liotta took from her home in Bronte, Sicily, Italy, on April 5, 2024, show a bizarre phenomenon known as “volcanic smoke rings.”
The rings arose from Mount Etna, Europe’s most active volcano. Etna rises 11,000 feet above the island of Sicily in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. The volcano erupts frequently, and its explosions have been documented for more than 3,500 years.
Until recently, how the smoke rings form wasn’t well understood. Formation requires a calm atmosphere and a circular volcanic vent. And, technically, it isn’t really smoke. When hot volcanic gases are released suddenly from the vent in a short pulse, the gases rush upwards and create a cloud, not unlike plane contrails.

NBA star LeBron James’ oldest son, Bronny, has declared for the NBA draft.
Bronny James, who played his freshman year of college basketball at the University of Southern California, announced he will enter the NBA draft while still maintaining his college eligibility.
On Instagram, Bronny wrote, “I’ve had a year with some ups and downs but all added to growth for me as a man, student, and athlete.”
“I’ve made the decision to enter the NBA Draft while maintaining my college eligibility and will also be entering the NCAA transfer portal.” added Bronny.
At USC, Bronny had a mediocre freshman year, averaging only 4.8 points per game and only starting in 6 of 25 games for the Trojans.
Bronny’s move comes as his father, LeBron, has let it be known he plans to play on the same team with his son before retiring from the NBA.

USC freshman guard Bronny James will enter the 2024 NBA draft while maintaining his college eligibility and will also enter the transfer portal, he said Friday on Instagram.
James had been expected to have a major impact on USC after earning McDonald’s All American honors in high school, but a July cardiac arrest episode and a procedure to treat a congenital heart defect sidelined him for five months and severely impacted his productivity as a freshman at USC.
James averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19 minutes a game.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the quake’s epicenter included the area of Donald Trump’s National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
Much like other areas on the East Coast, there have been no reported damages at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster due to the quake.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake hit at 10:23 a.m. ET near Whitehouse Station, New Jersey. Trump’s golf club is located less than seven miles northeast of the area.
Friday’s earthquake was felt from Philadelphia to New York and there are reports that tremors were felt even as far as Maryland and Massachusetts. USGS estimates that more than 42 million people felt the quake.

On Thursday, a lightning bolt struck the Statue of Liberty’s torch during a severe storm in New York.
Photographer Dan Martland captured the moment when the lightning bolt hit the Statue of Liberty and posted the photo of the moment on X.
Martland wrote, “The Statue of Liberty getting zapped by a bolt of lightning.”
“I usually shoot the city in storms, but I couldn’t see anything with all the low clouds. This is why I went close to the Statue of Liberty. Just wanted to see something.” added Martland.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has awarded defense contractor Northrop Grumman a contract to create a concept roadmap for a lunar railroad.
In a recent announcement, Northrop Grumman revealed they were awarded a contract by DARPA under the LunA-10 initiative, which is a project by the U.S. government that aims to create commercial activity on the moon in the next ten years.
In a press release, Northrop Grumman wrote they were “selected by DARPA to develop the concept of building a moon-based railroad network as part of the broader 10-year Lunar Architecture (LunA-10) Capability Study.”
The lunar railroad network is expected to have capabilities to transport humans, resources, and supplies across the moon.

Railroads could open the moon to serious and sustained economic development, as they did in the American West in the late 19th century.
That’s apparently the hope of the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), which is supporting the development of a “lunar railroad” concept proposed by aerospace giant Northrop Grumman.
“The envisioned lunar railroad network could transport humans, supplies and resources for commercial ventures across the lunar surface, contributing to a space economy for the United States and international partners,” Northrop Grumman representatives wrote in a press statement on Tuesday (March 19).
Northrop Grumman was one of 14 companies that DARPA selected this past December to participate in its 10-Year Lunar Architecture (LunA-10) Capability Study, which aims to help humanity extend its economic footprint into deep space.

A member of the Texas National Guard was arrested after he was caught on video smuggling an illegal immigrant across the southern border in his government-issued vehicle.
In the video, Specialist Savion Johnson, who was deployed in Eagle Pass, Texas, was seen leading Texas’ Department of Public Safety authorities on a high-speed chase after authorities were alerted by Johnson’s suspicious actions near a Border Patrol checkpoint.
Johnson has since been charged with smuggling an illegal person, evading arrest, and unlawful carry of a weapon.
Governor Greg Abbott’s spokesperson stated that if the allegations against Johnson are true, he’s a “traitor and criminal.”

Dramatic video captured the moment a Texas National Guardsman was captured after allegedly smuggling an illegal immigrant to the southern border and leading police on a high-speed chase in his government-issued SUV.
Specialist Savion Amari Donovan Johnson, 26, is seen being dragged out of the vehicle by members of the Texas Department of Public Safety and Kinney County sheriff’s deputies.
He was arrested Sunday in Bracketville after the chase, which reached speeds at over 100 mph and charged with evading arrest, smuggling of persons and unlawful carry of a weapon.
The soldier was deployed to the Eagle Pass crossing as part of Gov. Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star State, according to NewsNation Now.

Former ESPN host Sage Steele has revealed that her interview with Joe Biden in March of 2021 was entirely scripted.
In an interview with Fox News, Steele shared, “I was told, ‘You will say every word we write out. You will not deviate from the script and go.’”
The former ESPN host added that the script was “Gone over dozens of times by many executives, editors, and executives. I was on script and was told not to deviate as it was very much; this is what you will ask.”
Executives at ESPN also made it very clear to Steele that she was to refrain from asking Biden any follow-up questions.

Former ESPN anchor Sage Steele revealed that her interview with President Joe Biden shortly after he took office in March 2021 was “scripted” by executives at the Disney-owned network.
Steele — who was “sidelined” by ESPN later that year after she criticized the company’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate and made controversial comments about former President Barack Obama — told Fox News that she was beholden to a “structured” interview.
“It was very much ‘This is what you will ask. This is how you will say it. No follow-ups, no follow-ups. Next,’” Steele told Fox, adding that each question was “gone over dozens of times by many editors and executives.”
Steele said she wasn’t certain whether ESPN had sent the questions to the White House in advance of the interview.

The White House on Tuesday directed NASA to establish a unified standard of time for the moon and other celestial bodies, as the United States aims to set international norms in space amid a growing lunar race among nations and private companies.
The head of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), according to a memo seen by Reuters, instructed the space agency to work with other parts of the U.S. government to devise a plan by the end of 2026 for setting what it called a Coordinated Lunar Time (LTC).
The differing gravitational force, and potentially other factors, on the moon and on other celestial bodies change how time unfolds relative to how it is perceived on Earth. Among other things, the LTC would provide a time-keeping benchmark for lunar spacecraft and satellites that require extreme precision for their missions.
“The same clock that we have on Earth would move at a different rate on the moon,” Kevin Coggins, NASA’s space communications and navigation chief, said in an interview.
The memo also shared that time moves quicker on the moon relative to Earth due to the moon’s gravitational field strength.
NASA has been busy in the last several months.

Late-night TV host Stephen Colbert is never known to be lost for words, but at the end of his Monday night show broadcast, the host of The Stephen Colbert Report was left speechless as he paid tribute to his long-time executive Amy Cole, who passed away at age 53.
At the end of his Monday night show, Colbert, who usually ends on a high note, looked noticeably dejected and asked the audience not to applaud.
Colbert then left the set when a visual appeared on the screen that showed a picture of Amy Cole with the caption, “Dedicated to our dear friend Amy Cole, 1970-2024.”
Cole’s cause of death was not revealed to viewers.

New York State Corrections Department has issued a lockdown for all inmates on April 8th due to the upcoming total solar eclipse.
The move by New York state corrections authorities has resulted in inmates suing the state.
On Friday, a group of inmates filed a lawsuit in Federal Court that states a lockdown on April 8th during the total solar eclipse “violates inmates’ constitutional rights to practice their faiths.”
The plaintiffs in the suit are six men with various backgrounds, including Baptist, Seventh-Day Adventist and Muslim.

Inmates at a New York prison who are being prevented from witnessing next week’s total solar eclipse have filed a lawsuit against the state corrections department, claiming that the decision violates their religious freedoms.
The celestial phenomenon, which has not passed over New York since 1925 and will not be seen again in the state until 2079, “is a significant religious event for people of many different faith backgrounds,” according to the complaint, which was filed Friday in federal court in upstate New York.
However, New York corrections officials put a lockdown in place at its facilities for April 8, the day the eclipse will pass over a long stretch of North America, including New York, as the moon blots out the sun. Among them is the Woodbourne Correctional Facility, the prison in Woodbourne where six men of varying religious faiths jointly sued the corrections department over the policy.
The plaintiffs – a Baptist, a Muslim, a Seventh-Day Adventist, two practitioners of Santeria and an atheist – are asking a judge to order the corrections department to immediately rescind the lockdown memo and provide eclipse glasses to all inmates who wish to view the eclipse, as it did when a partial eclipse was visible in 2017 in New York.
North of New York in the Niagara Falls region, Canadian officials have already declared a state of emergency to prepare for the upcoming total solar eclipse on April 8th.

University of Kentucky student was knocked down while walking to class during a tornado warning on Tuesday.
Most of Kentucky was under a tornado watch Tuesday as severe storms struck the region, including in the Louisville area. According to National Weather Service messaging, severe thunderstorms still posed a risk across the region in the afternoon, with the threat of wind gusts reaching 40 miles per hour and penny-sized hail. The NWS office in Louisville oversees the Lexington area, where the university is located.
The video that documented the painful fall shows the student battling severe winds before being blown backward and temporarily going airborne before crashing to the ground. The video was shared by the social media account RawsAlerts.
Governor Andy Beshear has since declared a state of emergency as sever storms has left many residents of Kentucky without power.

The owner of the Dali ship that crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore last week has filed a court filing in U.S. Federal Court, claiming no responsibility for the Key bridge’s collapse.
In a court petition, Dali’s owner, Grace Ocean Private Limited, “denied any fault or neglect of the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.”
Grace Ocean Private Limited and Dali’s ship manager, Synergy Marine Pte Ltd, requested in the petition to be exonerated from all liability for the Key bridge’s collapse.
A portion of the filing obtained by Independent states, “The [bridge collapse] was not due to any fault, neglect, or want of care on the part of [ship owner & operator], the Vessel, or any persons or entities for whose acts [ship owner & operator] may be responsible.”
The filing also requests the court to cap any liability at $43.6 million.

The owners and manager of the cargo ship that crashed into a Baltimore bridge last week and sent its metal frame tumbling into the river below have denied responsibility, as they tried to argue that they shouldn’t be held liable for amounts larger than the new value of the damaged vessel.
Singapore-based Grace Ocean Private Ltd., the owner of the cargo ship Dali, and Synergy Marine Pte Ltd., the ship’s manager, filed a petition in federal court Monday denying any fault or neglect, according to the Baltimore Banner.
“The [bridge collapse] was not due to any fault, neglect, or want of care on the part of Petitioners, the Vessel, or any persons or entities for whose acts Petitioners may be held responsible,” the “limitation of liability” petition filed in the US District Court of Baltimore says, the Banner reports.
“Alternatively, if any such faults caused or contributed to the [bridge collapse], or to any loss or damage arising out of the Casualty, which is denied, such faults were occasioned and occurred without Petitioners’ privity or knowledge.”

Nearly 2,000 motorists, who are mostly tourists, are stranded after a portion of scenic Highway 1 collapsed in the Big Sur region of California over the weekend.
California Department of Transporation officials reported on Saturday afternoon that chunks of asphalt from the southbound lane of Highway 1, located near the Rocky Creek Bridge, fell into the ocean after heavy rain hit the area.
The bridge’s collapse caused the California Highway Patrol to immediately close the highway, resulting in nearly 2,000 tourists being stranded in the area.
The California Highway Patrol stated, “This will likely be an extended road closure. We are working on a plan to get motorists evacuated from the area.”

A portion of scenic Highway 1 in the Big Sur area of California collapsed Saturday stranding about 2,000 motorists, mostly tourists, overnight.
Officials with the California Department of Transportation said on Sunday that a section of the southbound highway located in the Central Coast, would remain closed to the public while crews worked on the affected areas. Large chunks of the road fell into the ocean. The highway, also known as the Pacific Coast Highway, features stretches of rocky cliffs, lush mountains, panoramic beaches and coastal redwood forests.
There were no reported injuries. Caltrans, the agency, did not give an estimate of when it expected to fully reopen the highway.
Officials did not say what led to the collapse, but torrential rain battered the area near Rocky Creek Bridge, which is about 17 miles south of Monterey.
Several convoys have already been deployed to start moving some of the stranded tourists and essential workers, but many remain stranded until further notice.

Vontae Davis, a former NFL cornerback for the Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts, was found dead inside his grandmother’s home in Southwest Florida on Monday.
Vontae Davis was only 35 years old.
According to WSVN-TV, police are launching an investigation into what caused his death but have confirmed no foul play was involved.
Davis made national headlines back in 2018 when the two-time pro bowler shocked his teammates and coaches when he decided to retire during halftime during the Bills game against the Chargers.

Officers were called Monday morning to a residence in the 6000 block of SW 178th Avenue by the house assistant, who discovered Davis’ body, the Davie Police Department said in a statement.

Family and friends were shocked by the loss of their loved one at such a young age.

The massive crane tasked with cleaning up the wreckage of the Baltimore Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse has a long past with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
The U.S. Naval Institute has reported that the Chesapeake, the largest crane on the East Coast, arrived to assist in the efforts of cleaning up the wreckage left behind from the Dali crashing into the Francis Scott Key Bridge on Friday.
According to the UNI, the Chesapeake, formerly named the SUN 800, was built by the CIA “to recover the Soviet Golf II ballistic missile submarine K-129, which sunk in 1968.”
The CIA used the SUN 800 to help assist in the construction of the Hughes Glomar Explorer.
The Hughes Glomar explorer was a “deep-sea drillship platform built for Project Azorian, the secret 1974 effort by the United States Central Intelligence Agency’s Special Activities Division to recover the Soviet submarine K-129.”
By conducting Project Azorian, the CIA was able to recover several Soviet crew members who were on board the Soviet submarine K-129.

Canada’s Niagara Falls region has declared a state of emergency to prepare for the upcoming total solar eclipse on April 8th.
In a press release, Niagara Regional Chair Jim Bradley said he issued a state of emergency “out of an abundance of caution.”
Bradley continued in the press release, “Declaring a State of Emergency under the EMCPA strengthens the tools the Region has at its disposal to safeguard the health and safety of residents and visitors and protect our critical infrastructure in any scenario that might arise.”
Ontario Mayor Jim Diodati is expecting the Canadian side of Niagara Falls to receive over one million visitors on the day the eclipse is set to occur, which is the main reason why Niagara officials decided to issue a state of emergency a week in advance before the solar eclipse is set to occur.

Niagara Falls, Canada, has declared a state of emergency ahead of the April 8 total eclipse as 1 million people are expected to flood the area.
The Ontario side of the falls has started to prepare for the expected influx in visitors coming to see the total social eclipse in early April.
The famous falls have been listed by National Geographic as one of the best places to see the eclipse – a phenomena not seen in the area since 1979. The city is within the path where the moon will entirely block the sun for a few minutes.
Mayor Jim Diodati estimated the city would see the most visitors in a single day on April 8 with an estimated 1 million expected. On average, the city see 14 million visit per year.
The state of emergency, which was announced Thursday, will allow the city to execute additional planning to help prepare for traffic jams, cell phone network overloads, and a higher need for emergency services, and more.
Niagara Falls has prematurely issued a state of emergency ahead of the solar eclipse on April 8th. The total solar eclipse will be the first to touch the province since 1979 — and Niagara Falls has been declared one of the best places to see it.

At the end of April, trillions of Cicadas are expected to emerge from the ground and swarm across 17 states in a massive mating frenzy.

A battery manufacturing company that’s linked to the Chinese Communist Party has filed a lawsuit against a Michigan man who is refusing to leave his land, which is located near where the company is set to build its new plant.
Gotion Inc. previously bought over 270 acres of land in Big Rapids, Michigan, as it plans to build a $2.4 billion manufacturing plant.
Stephen Fenstermacher, who lives in Big Rapids, Michigan, sold some acres to Gotion Inc. under the condition he could still reside on his property.
Gotion Inc. has now filed a lawsuit to terminate its agreement with Fenstermacher and is looking to remove Fenstermacher from his land.
In the filing, Gotion Inc. claims Fenstermacher violated the contract’s terms.

A Chinese Communist Party-linked battery manufacturing giant is suing a Michigan man in a bid to get him off land near which the company plans to build its plant.
Gotion Inc., a subsidiary of the Chinese-based firm Gotion High-Tech, is slated to build a $2.4 billion manufacturing plant in Big Rapids, Michigan. Stephan Fenstermacher, a man living in Big Rapids, sold land to Gotion under an agreement between the two parties that he can currently reside on the property. Gotion is now looking to terminate Fenstermacher’s residency and possess the land, arguing Fenstermacher violated the terms of the agreement, according to a lawsuit first reported by the Michigan News Source.
Many Michigan residents have expressed ire with Gotion’s plans to build its plant because its parent company, Gotion High-Tech, has extensive ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the Daily Caller News Foundation previously reported. Residents voted in November elections to oust five of the seven members of the Green Charter Township board over their handling of the Gotion issue.
Gotion High-Tech employed 923 members of the CCP as of 2022 — including the company’s CEO, Li Zhen. The company openly admitted that it “founded a CCP branch in 2010 that was upgraded to a CCP committee in 2014,” according to its 2022 ESG Report.
The Gateway Pundit previously reported Gotion’s failed plan to buy up farmland in another location in Michigan last year.

Georgia Law Enforcement authorities, in a months-long investigation titled “Operation Skyhawk,” arrested 150 people for operating a drone-based operation that smuggled guns, drugs, and cell phones into Georgia prisons.
Operation Skyhawk was a joint collaboration between the FBI and the Georgia Department of Corrections.
During the raid, agents seized 87 drones used to drop contraband into Georgia prison yards, 22 weapons, 273 cellphones, and over $7 million worth of drugs.

The European Organization for Nuclear Research, best known as CERN, will smash protons together at nearly the speed of light on April 8th, which happens to be the day a total solar eclipse will occur.

Theories have suggested there are 17 different particle groups and the European Organization for Nuclear Research, better known as CERN, confirmed the existence of one using its Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in 2012.
Now, the team has restarted the LHC after a two-year hibernation with hopes of unraveling more mysterious – specifically dark matter.
Scientists began preliminary tests by sending billions of protons around the LHC’s ring of superconducting magnets to boost their energy and ensure the $4 billion machine was in working condition.
And next month, CERN will shoot them down a 17-mile-long tunnel at nearly the speed of light to recreate conditions a second after the Big Bang.
Joshua Ruderman, a physics professor at New York University, has described the LHC as “a particle creation machine and a particle discovery machine.”
CERN has not received a favorable opinion from the public eye in the last two decades.
In 2004, CERN received backlash after placing a Shiva Statue outside its headquarters in Switzerland.

Over 750,000 fish are now dead in the Nishnabotna River after 1,500 tons of liquid nitrogen fertilizer spilled into the river.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources was notified about the spill by fertilizer company New Cooperative after a massive amount of nitrogen fertilizer spilled into a drainage ditch connected to the Nishnabotna River.
New Cooperative told Iowa DNR officials that the spill stemmed from a malfunctioning valve in a tank storing liquid nitrogen fertilizer that had gone unnoticed for several days.
Iowa DNR officials shared, “DNR Fisheries staff documented the fish kill occurring in all 49.8 miles of the East Nishnabotna and Nishnabotna Rivers downstream of the spill.”
The Nishnabotna River is a tributary to the Missouri River and flows through Iowa, Missouri, and Nebraska.

A fertilizer spill this month in southwest Iowa killed nearly all the fish in a 60-mile stretch of river with an estimated death toll of more than 750,000, according to Iowa and Missouri conservation officers.
That is the biggest fish kill in Iowa in at least a decade and the fifth-largest on record, according to state data.
And it could have been worse: Fish populations were likely smaller than normal when the spill happened because of cold water temperatures and low river flows.
“Thank goodness, in a way, it happened when it did,” said Joe Larscheid, chief of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ fisheries bureau. “But this is a big one. It’s a lot of river miles that have been impacted.”
The spill originated at NEW Cooperative in Red Oak, Iowa, where a valve that either malfunctioned or was not properly closed leaked about 265,000 gallons of liquid nitrogen fertilizer, most of which went into the nearby East Nishnabotna River.
The carnage spread to Missouri, where the unified Nishnabotna River flows for about 10 miles before it meets the Missouri River.

Harvard University has announced it will remove a book made from human skin from its Houghton library.
In a press release, Harvard said the book Des Destinées de l’Ame, which has been in its library since the 1930s, will be removed from its shelves.
The decision by Harvard to remove the book comes ten years after scientists confirmed the book’s binding was, in fact, bound with human skin.
According to Harvard, the book’s first owner was French physician Dr. Ludovic Bouland, who bound the book with skin from a deceased female patient in a hospital where he was employed.
In the last decade, students employed in Houghton Library were allegedly hazed by being asked to retrieve the skin-bound book.

Harvard Library has removed human skin from the binding of a copy of Arsène Houssaye’s book Des destinées de l’âme (1880s), held at Houghton Library. The volume’s first owner, French physician and bibliophile Dr. Ludovic Bouland (1839–1933), bound the book with skin he took without consent from the body of a deceased female patient in a hospital where he worked. The book has been in the collections of Harvard Library since 1934, initially placed on deposit by John B. Stetson, Jr. (1884–1952), an American diplomat, businessman, and Harvard alumnus (AB 1906), and later through donation by his widow Ruby F. Stetson to Houghton Library in 1954.
The removal of the human skin from Des destinées de l’âme follows a review by Houghton Library of the book’s stewardship, prompted by the recommendations of the Report of the Harvard University Steering Committee on Human Remains in University Museum Collections issued in fall 2022. After careful study, stakeholder engagement, and consideration, Harvard Library and the Harvard Museum Collections Returns Committee concluded that the human remains used in the book’s binding no longer belong in the Harvard Library collections, due to the ethically fraught nature of the book’s origins and subsequent history.
In the course of its review, the library noted several ways in which its stewardship practices failed to meet the level of ethical standards to which it subscribes. Until relatively recently, the library has made the book available to anyone who asked for it, regardless of their reason for wishing to consult it.
Library lore suggests that decades ago, students employed to page collections in Houghton’s stacks were hazed by being asked to retrieve the book without being told it included human remains. In 2014, following the scientific analysis that confirmed the book to be bound in human skin, the library published posts on the Houghton blog that utilized a sensationalistic, morbid, and humorous tone that fueled similar international media coverage.

Jakes is not accused of anything in the lawsuit. According to the court documents, Jones claims that Combs “planned to leverage his relationship with Bishop T.D. Jakes to soften the impact on his public image of Cassie Ventura’s lawsuit.”
The named celebrities have not been charged.
Diddy has had a long history of propping up Democrat candidates in election seasons.
In 2004, Diddy, at the height of his rap career, headed the campaign “Vote or Die” a political group aimed to get young people and minorities to vote.

Shortly after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed, former fraud investigator and veteran Jimmy Corsetti took to X and pointed out that in Obama’s new Netflix movie “Leave the World Behind” there is a scene where a massive cargo ship crashes into the beach after losing power from a cyber attack.
Corsetti added in the thread that the cargo ship in the movie was named the “White Lion” and highlighted that the country of Sri Lanka has a lion on its national flag.

The Gateway Pundit reported on Monday that Homeland Security agents raided rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Comb’s $40 million mansion as part of an ongoing sex trafficking investigation.
Combs was notably missing during the raid and was reportedly in Miami when the raid took place.
The Los Angeles Times reported Comb’s mansion, located in Holmby Hills, Los Angeles, measures 17,000 square feet and has a 3,000 square-foot guesthouse.
The outlet also noted Comb’s mansion had an underwater swimming tunnel that connects to a grotto.

Music producer and rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs purchased his swanky $40 million Los Angeles estate in 2014.
Located in the lavish neighborhood of Holmby Hills, the home measures 17,000 square feet and has a 3,000 square-foot guesthouse, according to TMZ.
The European-style villa has a 35-seat theater, a gym, a wine room and even has an underwater swimming tunnel which connects to a grotto, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The mansion is fairly new; built in 2014, it comes with eight bedrooms and 11 bathrooms. There’s also a separate spa house which comes with a steam room, massage room and a beauty salon, TMZ reported.
The Miami Herald reported that federal agents had confiscated electronic devices at Combs’ home and detained his associates while conducting the raid.

A fire broke out in a kiosk near the Lincoln Memorial Circle on Thursday morning.
The victim of the fire has been flown out by a U.S. Park Police helicopter and is being treated at a nearby hospital for serious injuries.
DC Fire authorities were able to put out the fire and secure propane tanks located inside the kiosk.
DC fire authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.

A fire at a kiosk near the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., on Thursday seriously injured a man, officials said.
D.C. Fire and EMS responded to Lincoln Memorial Circle and found a small structure in flames.
A U.S. Park Police helicopter took the victim for medical treatment, D.C. Fire said. He is expected to survive. U.S. Park Police said the victim is associated with the kiosk.
The fire has been extinguished, officials said.

As The Gateway Pundit reported earlier the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Chair Jennifer Homendy announced the voyage data recorder known as the “black box’ was recovered from the DALI cargo ship that crashed into the Francis Scott Key bridge early Tuesday morning.
On Tuesday evening, Homendy and NTSB investigator Marcel Muise held a press conference to reveal the data on the DALI’s black box, also known as the Voyage Data Recorder (VDR).
NTSB investigator Marcel Muise revealed there were about six hours of VDR on data and included a timeline of midnight to 6 am.
Before revealing the data on the VDR, Muise warned that the quality of the voice recording and radio data was hard to comprehend due to background noise.
Muise then shared that the “VDR sensor data ceased recording. The VDR audio continued to record using the redundant power source.”
“VDR resumed recording sensor data, and during this time, steering commands and rutter orders were recorded on the audio,” added Muise.
Muise continued, “The ship’s pilot made a very high-frequency radio call for tugs in the vicinity to assist. About this time, the pilot dispatcher phoned the Maryland Transportation Authority duty officer regarding the blackout.”
He concluded his statement by adding that “The ship’s speed over ground was recorded at just under 7 knots. From this moment to approximately 1:29:33, the VDR audio recorded sounds consistent with the collision of the bridge.”

Before the content on the black box was revealed, Homendy noted a group of operations and engineering groups boarded the DALI to do a walk-through of the ship’s bridge and engine room to find any electronic recorders, cameras, or CCTV footage but could not find any.

The alarms first sounded on the Dali around 1:24 a.m. Tuesday, an NTSB official said in a Wednesday evening news conference, citing preliminary information from the container ship’s voice data recorder.
About a minute and a half later, the ship’s pilot used a high-frequency radio to request assistance, helping to alert the on-duty Maryland Transportation Authority officer. The pilot called for “tugs in the vicinity,” which help vessels leave the port and get into its main channel. Before the Dali hit the bridge, it had no tugs. Thirty seconds later, the pilot ordered the ship’s anchor to be dropped and gave “additional steering commands,” said Marcel Muise, the lead investigator.
At 1:27 a.m., the pilot reported that the Dali had lost all power and was approaching the bridge, Muise said. At the time, there were two Maryland Transportation Authority units at the scene because of the ongoing construction, and those units shut down all lanes of traffic on the bridge, according to Muise.
He said the voice data recorder captured “sounds consistent with the collision” at 1:29 a.m. Around this time, the lights on the Key Bridge also went out.

While talking to CNN, Homendy revealed NTSB investigators obtained the black box to the DALI and sent it back to NTSB’s lab to be analyzed.

U.S. federal safety investigators recovered the black box from the freight ship that crashed into a Baltimore bridge, the agency chief said on Wednesday, as rescuers looked for the remains of six workers missing in the bridge collapse.
A highway team also will be looking at the twisted remains of the Francis Scott Key Bridge as they try to determine how and why a container ship smashed into a pillar of the 2.6-kilometre bridge in early morning darkness on Tuesday.
Investigators from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board recovered the data recorder after boarding the ship late on Tuesday, NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy said. They will interview the ship’s crew, she said.
Homendy said the Singapore-flagged container vessel Dali possessed one of the newer models of data recorder and that officials would be looking to gather information including “positioning of ship, the vessel itself, speed, you name it.”

Discount chain Dollar Tree has announced it will raise its price cap to $7 for some store items.
During a recent fourth-quarter earnings call, CEO of Dollar Tree Rick Dreiling shared, “This year, across 3,000 stores, we expect to expand our multi-price assortment by over 300 items at price points ranging from $1.50 to $7.”
Due to the ongoing inflation under the Biden administration, Dollar Tree was previously forced to raise their prices from $1 to $1.25 in 2021.
The $7 price cap will be implemented in the fourth quarter, and at the beginning of June, a $5 price cap will be temporarily set.
Dollar Tree’s announcement comes just weeks after the discount chain announced it would close up to 1,000 stores of its sister chain, Family Dollar.

Discount retail giant Dollar Tree said that it would raise the price cap in its stores to $7 in its fourth quarter earnings call earlier this month.
“This year, across 3,000 stores, we expect to expand our multi-price assortment by over 300 items at price points ranging from $1.50 to $7,” Dollar Tree CEO Rick Dreiling said in the call on March 13.
A $5 cap was set in June, according to Yahoo Finance. In 2021 the company raised the base price of items to $1.25.
The higher cost items will include food, pet and personal care items, though not all items will be at the $7 price cap.
As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, Dollar Tree, which owns Family Dollar, announced it would close 600 Family Dollar stores in the first half of 2024 and 370 stores within the next several years.
Dollar Tree also announced they will close 30 stores as their leases expire.
The news comes as the discount chain has faced difficulties maintaining profits due to inflation and facing significant fines for violating U.S. product safety standards after it was discovered Family Dollar warehouses were filled with live and dead rodents.

The Baltimore Sun reported the captain and the crew of the DALI cargo ship that crashed into the Francis Scott Key bridge were taken to a local Walmart to shop before their departure on early Tuesday morning.
The Apostleship of the Sea Director, Andrew Middleton, told the press he took the DALI captain and crew members to shop at a local Walmart over the weekend.
Apostleship of the Sea is a Catholic ministry that helps crew members of international ships run errands, go shopping, and perform other tasks.
Post-9/11 security measures require crew members of international ships to be escorted through port areas by vetted persons.
Middleton told USA Today that as soon as he heard the news that the cargo ship crashed into the Key bridge, he messaged one of the members on WhatsApp and asked if everyone was alright, to which the crew member responded everything was okay.

The crew of the stranded container ship DALI have reported they are OK and awaiting rescue after the collision that caused a portion of the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore to collapse, according to a seafarers’ chaplain who took them shopping on Sunday.
Andrew Middleton said he took the ship’s captain and a crewman shopping at a nearby Walmart to buy personal items and snacks before their departure.
Since 9/11, international crews have to be escorted by a vetted person through most port areas, and Middleton said it’s fairly common for crews like the DALI’s to request assistance from the Apostleship of the Sea Baltimore Stella Maris International Seafarers’ Center, where he is the director. The group is part of the Catholic Church’s Archdiocese of Baltimore.
Middleton woke up Tuesday morning to the shocking news the ship hit the bridge, and he immediately messaged one of the crewmen via WhatsApp.
“My question to him was, ‘Is everyone ok?’ And the answer was ‘yes sir, everyone is safe,'” Middleton told USA TODAY.

Dozens of Trump supporters in Huntington, New York, protested the arrival of comedian and former View Co-host Kathy Griffen.
Just hours before Griffen was set to take the stage as part of her “My Life on the PTSD List” at the Paramount Theater in Huntington, New York, dozens of Trump supporters started a caravan to protest Griffen’s visit.

On Monday, the National Football League announced that owners had approved a rule proposal that banned the swivel hip-drop tackle technique.
According to The Atheltic, the swivel hip-drop tackle is when a player “Grabs a runner with both hands/arms while attempting to make a tackle or unweights himself by swiveling and dropping his hips and lower body.”
The new rule will result in violators being flagged for a 15-yard penalty.
NFL executive vice president Troy Vincent told the press that the new rule would also result in players getting fined and receiving warning letters after the game.

NFL owners have approved a rule proposal to ban the swivel hip-drop tackle, the league announced Monday.
The violation will result in a 15-yard penalty if flagged in games, but Troy Vincent, the NFL’s executive vice president of football operations, strongly implied last week that it is likely to be enforced similarly to the “use of helmet” rule, which typically leads to warning letters and fines in the week after a game rather than flags during play.
The hip-drop tackling ban proposal was written to address only a subset of the rugby tackling style that has spread around the NFL in recent years, competition committee chairman Rich McKay said last week.
This isn’t the first time the NFL has changed its rules in the name of “safety.”
In 2022, the NFL passed a new roughing-the-passer penalty that penalizes defenses for being too rough to a quarterback after he releases the football.
The new rule has left many defensive players playing less aggressively due to fear they will receive a penalty, which has led to an offensive explosion in the league.
